@Liberux bravo and thank's for all your effort !

📣 #Liberux #NEXX is now live on crowdfunding! 🚀

And thank's to be explicit in your FAQ about "Why do you refer to it as "mostly #opensource"? What does that mean? "

Hope your crowdfunding have success, really hope one day you could sell totally #freehardware
I will follow this project ! Good luck !

I wonder if you can #copyleft an idea?

Like, you've done some research and you've figured out a method, technique, algorithm, etc, but you don't have any code or a prototype.
Can you make sure that if anyone builds anything with it, they can't make it proprietary?

If food, shelter, and medicine are the three basic physical human needs, I see these as basic human rights.

I think medicine and medical technology should obviously be an example of Free Manufacturing, based on Free Software and Free Hardware, and free manufacturing processes. I'm excited to explore the space of free medicine in this context.

I'm also excited about how Free Manufacturing can improve access to shelter and food.

#freemanufacturing #freesoftware #freehardware #physicalneeds #humanrights

I'm working on a concept of Free Manufacturing, which is an idea that includes Free Hardware, Free Software, and an idea that anyone anywhere can manufacture products independently, to make a living, or otherwise help their local communities. This is a very rough draft, and I'm very open to feedback.

Just ordered some parts to prototype an experimental tactile interface for "feeling" visual textures.

I ordered a piezoelectric actuator, some through hole op-amps to drive it, a breadboard, some prototyping wire, some 1/8" prototyping jacks, an assortment of through hole resistors, and a big box of small plastic drawers to organize my parts.

I'm gonna drive the piezoelectric actuator by driving the op-amp with the audio out from my sound card on my PC. I'm planning to prototype a tiny MCU and tiny camera separately.

I'm so excited for this project.

Looking forward to learning more about this libre-licensed RISC-V SoC with Kazan GPU and VPU.

I'm really curious how these types of chips are prototyped. I know we can simulate a few hundred thousand logical operations with an FPGA, but is that even close to simulating a powerful chip of this size?

How come there are no open-source 2D printers?

We have all this open-source hardware—3D printers, soldering irons, single-board computers, and even some phones.

But there’s still no DIY/open-source printer that lets you use any ink without hacks or tricks, one that’s easy to upgrade and expand, without forcing you to buy all kinds of proprietary nonsense. Why?

I wish I had enough knowledge to start such a project. Hopefully, one day I will.

Let's start a discussion!

What do you think are the biggest challenges in creating an open-source 2D printer? What solutions could help overcome them?

@unix_discussions Can always trust RMS to be very pedantic^W specific.

The URL he mentions:

gnu.org/philosophy/free-hardwa

>In 2014, if we had a free design for a CPU chip suitable for a PC, mass-produced chips made from that design would not give us the same freedom in the hardware domain. If we're going to buy a product mass produced in a factory, this dependence on the factory causes most of the same problems as a nonfree design. For free designs to give us hardware freedom, we need future fabrication technology.
>
>We can envision a future in which our personal fabricators can make chips, and our robots can assemble and solder them together with transformers, switches, keys, displays, fans and so on. In that future we will all make our own computers (and fabricators and robots), and we will all be able to take advantage of modified designs made by those who know hardware. The arguments for rejecting nonfree software will then apply to nonfree hardware designs too.
>
>That future is years away, at least. In the meantime, there is no need to reject hardware with nonfree designs on principle.

"For free designs to give us hardware freedom, we need future fabrication technology."

Or we need collective ownership and control of the means of production. But alas, Stallman is a liberal, and does not like that idea.

>In the meantime, there is no need to reject hardware with nonfree designs on principle.
>
>...
>
>Although we need not reject digital hardware made from nonfree designs in today's circumstances, we need to develop free designs and should use them when feasible. They provide advantages today, and in the future they may be the only way to use free software.

Software is subservient to the hardware that runs it. If the hardware design is nonfree, then we may not be able to run the free software. Cory Doctorow's ( @pluralistic ) "Lockdown: The Coming War on General Purpose Computing" was quite prescient in that regard (boingboing.net/2012/01/10/lock), and I'm glad Stallman recognized the threat too.

WiFi Duck

Wireless BadUSB with a free, as in freedom, source.

wifiduck.com

WiFi Duck is a free tool for studying keystroke injection attacks and learning about BadUSB.

Easy to use and self-build (with ATmega32u4 and ESP8266).

It has WiFi connection and you can save and execute BadUSB scripts through a simple web interface.

No need to compile scripts or copy them to a micro SD card.

Great tool to quickly learn new scripts and test them.

100% DIYable

Open Led Race Project

Do you like racing and lights?

This project might be for you.

openledrace.net

The Open LED Race game started as an activity for the Arduino Day Sevilla 2019 event, in the Makerspace of the Sevilla Maker Society.

It has since evolved as an independent project with great reach in the global maker community.

It is an open hardware project, for information on how to build your own version visit this page:

So... Just for something to do while lying in bed all day yesterday, I decided to create an updated version of my favourite guitar pedal, which I built for myself around 2008.

That pedal was a #dod250 overdrive with a switch to remove the clipping diodes, effectively turning it into a "clean" boost. This cascades into a slightly modified Rat, which can also have it's clipping diodes switched between 1N914 and red LEDs (this is the only distinction between a Rat and a TurboRat).

All this inside a #1590BB enclosure, with two stomp switches for true bypass signal switching, two toggle switches for OD/CB and Rat/Turbo, and 5 pots for parameters.

The NEW version has entirely digital control via an #attiny #microcontroller, 5 digital potentiometers, and IC analog switches to switch the features on and off. The MAJOR new addition is a switch to reverse the insertion order of the FX, so you can have 250 -> Rat OR Rat -> 250! A single encoder w/ OLED screen replaces the 5 pots and 2 toggle switches. Stomp switches are still true bypass. I'm aiming to fit this into a #1590B box

I'm putting the entire project under an MIT license, and will release all the relevant source code, drawing files (schematic, board layouts, etc) once complete. This is very much a #WIP.

A schematic drawing of the DigiRatTail - a digitally controlled analog signal path multi-fx pedal. The schematic is laid out into blocks with various chunks of circuitry in each. The blocks are: Rat/TurboRat, Microprocessor, Power supply, 250 Overdrive/Clean Boost, Pedal Order Switching, Feature Switching.
