I've released Nashpy v0.0.43 which includes numerical simulation of introspection dynamics: https://nashpy.readthedocs.io/en/stable/how-to/use-introspection-dynamics.html
My PhD student Harry and I have been talking about introspection dynamics a lot after seeing Christian Hilbe's LEG Seminar <https://thelegproject.wordpress.com/leg-seminar/>. It's a really neat idea (co-authors on the 2022 original paper went on to define it for multiplayer games but in Nashpy it's just 2 player games).
This game theory problem will change the way you see the world
Reading https://www.quantamagazine.org/the-game-theory-of-how-algorithms-can-drive-up-prices-20251022/ I'm amazed to discover how hard it is to actually get a free market to be good for customers. #gametheory #capitalism
Can’t believe that I hadn’t shared this wonderful #paper from last year – start by looking at the list of authors 😄:
“An Abundance Of Katherines: The Game Theory Of Baby Naming” [2024], Katy Blumer, et al (https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.00732).
I like to run my rpgs in a more simulation style. I try to ground the world in a system that runs in the background without the players input. Like a computer.
But I am not an absolutist about it either. Sometimes the idea of "this is a game and it should be fun" has to come into play.
Maybe we wanted to play Caves of Chaos, but, unexpectedly you somehow have 18 players show up to play.
Suddenly, the nature of the play changes. The kobolds and orcs will get stomped if the players secretly and indiscreetly make their way through the caves. Probably not as fun.
Before running the game, I would probably adjust the encounters. Maybe even think of ways that the monsters will detect 18 adventures and band together a little bit.
Now imagine, only 2 players show up to play... I would probably change the adventure to make it more of a sneak in, grab something, and sneak out.
What I will not do, is change the encounters after we start playing, on the fly, just because the group is having a run of bad luck, or in a bad jam.
One is adjusting the adventure beforehand to make it more fun to play.
After the fact is just taking away the challenge, the players sense of victory.
A Schelling point is a solution people naturally pick when they need to coordinate but can’t communicate.
The classic example is the flagpole at an American high school. If you and your friends have not discussed a meeting place, that’s where you go. Other examples include the entrance at a crowded festival or Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
The concept is named after the economist […]

I've written up a brief summary of all this here: https://vknight.org/2025/10/21/rrr.html
You can find a great talk from a few years ago from one of the other authors describing the process of reviving the work here:
In the preprint we show how after reviving the code to work with the modern framework for the study of the Prisoners Dilemma (the axelrod python library) we **almost** reproduce the results.
Following that we then explore what would happen if the original tournament was slightly different. The important finding of our work is how much the conclusions made were dependent on the original set of strategies: they created a very particular environment.
New preprint: "Reviving, reproducing, and revisiting Axelrod's second tournament"
https://arxiv.org/abs/2510.15438
We have revived the original code [as much as possible] of Robert Axelrod's second 1980 tournament (the larger one).
This tournament was the one from which a large amount of research followed and where the legend of the effectiveness of Tit For Tat originated.

One of the issues with rogues is how they do not stack in power against traps, hiding, climbing walls (their specialties), so there is less of a motive to have multiple rogues in the group. Even if the game mechanics allow stacking of finding traps, the nature of traps is more ephemeral than fighting monsters, so it does not feel as efficient to have 2 rogues just to combat traps an adventuring party might encounter.
