They produce large, daisy-like composite flowers in brilliant shades of yellow and orange, over a long period in summer. They are often planted as a drought-tolerant groundcover. The Daisy is pretty and versatile. Daisies are hugely popular too! There is a wide range of plants belonging to the Daisy family or Compositae (Asteraceae).There are annuals, perennials, shrubs and even trees. Some are hardy while others are tender. In fact, everybody should be able to find a plant to their taste within the huge daisy family! Some other well known plants like Osteospermum, Chrysanthemum, Gerbera and Calendula belong to the Daisy family.

Photograph of some bright yellow Gazanias Sahara Daisies I purchased and planted in my garden. Sahara produces an abundance of doubled, bright yellow flowers atop dense grey foliage. This Gazania will provide a dense cover of foliage that acts as an excellent weed suppressant. It's a popular variety for mass plantings due to the amount of large, doubled flowers it produces and the cover it provides. The best part about this Gazania is that it's non-invasive. Unlike most Gazania varieties which produce seed and are considered a weed in many parts of the country. By Kaye Menner Photography.
