The Famous Bering Land Bridge Was More Like a Swamp gizmodo.com/the-famous-bering-

"#Geologists suggest that between 36,000 and 11,000 years ago, the #BeringLandBridge between modern-day #Siberia and #Alaska may have been less an arid steppe #grassland and more a boggy #ecosystem crisscrossed by rivers. This complicates #scientists’ understanding of the landmass and how its #landscape would have facilitated or impeded the spread of different species"

Normal people: 😨 look at the destruction, the awesome power of water men cannot control.
Geologists: Can we please start working on resilience to #ClimateChange? Please!
Also, #geologists: This seems like a great opportunity to discuss imbrication and how cars act as weird particles in stream 👩‍🏫.

#Geologists Uncover Mysterious Hidden #SubductionZone Beneath #Pacific, Offering A Glimpse into Earth's Ancient Interior
This discovery reveals a hidden chapter of Earth’s history that reshapes our understanding of the planet’s inner workings. This hidden tectonic boundary, buried over 250 million years ago, challenges prevailing theories about Earth’s interior structure and offers insights into how the planet’s surface has evolved over millennia.

I might've found Willy Wonka's secret mountain lair?

Fascinating East ridge view of Three Fingered Jack. The East ridges in Oregon's cascades show an interesting geological story that I wish I better knew. Are there any Geologists here who might know how to tell part of this story better?

During her lifetime she was barred from even attending meetings of the Geological Society of London (let alone applying for membership) because of her sex & many wealthy "paleontologists" published claims of discovery based on having purchased fossils from Anning & other fossil hunters (neglecting to mention Anning's name or contribution). Nonetheless, many contemporary #geologists & #paleontologists became so impressed with her knowledge that they would visit her to consult on the anatomy & 🧵2/

Stagnant “greenwater” tank is beginning to grow some microorganisms for future fish fry feeding….but way too slow because the floating plants are actually keeping algae at bay…out competing the algae the critters need to reproduce more quickly.

Seen in past 24 hours a “fast worm”, a couple of single flagella beasts too quick and small to really see at 40x…some fairly fast moving tiny planaria? and a slow “bristled worm” that seems to be attracting whatever solid matter is in the droplet and trying to escape it constantly.

Yeah…this is what happens when #geologists attempt to biologize.

@mattotcha There has to be a way of dating rocks, right? Like Carbon dating for organics, etc. Be nice if we could know approx when the alterations were made. Hello? ?
