It is now common knowledge that, had the Enigma code not been broken, World War II would certainly have lasted a year or two longer.
Lately I've been thinking about how much the resistance activists contributed to ending the war. We learned very little about it in school, probably because the "we couldn't do anything against the superior forces" narrative was too convenient and more comfortable than seriously coming to terms with the past. I do hope this has changed.
I wonder how much longer the war would have lasted if they hadn't existed. The many who dissolved the Third Reich from within through civil resistance and, in some cases, armed force.
Some groups formed as early as 1934. So to my US American friends: it is never too early to get organized.
