La #UniónEuropea, el Gobierno central de #España y su homólogo del #ReinoUnido cerraron un acuerdo que redefine la relación institucional y comercial en torno a #Gibraltar. Situado en el extremo sureste de la Península Ibérica, el enclave británico integrará el ‘espacio Schengen’, el área para la libre circulación de personas y de mercancías que constituye uno de los mayores hitos de la UE. Los controles fronterizos se mantendrán en aeropuertos y en puertos.

I missed this recently, but it looks like Gibraltar is going to become part of Schengen, which means British citizens who don't reside in Gibraltar will be treated as third-country visitors and will be subject to EU border controls and the 90 day stay limit.
Feels like the first step in splitting Gibraltar off from the UK and making it part of Spain (Gibraltar has always voted both strongly pro-EU and pro-UK in the past).
#UK, #EU, #Spain, and #Gibraltar representatives met in Brussels and reached a political agreement on the core elements of a future UK-EU treaty on Gibraltar. The Agreement aims to promote regional prosperity by removing physical border checks between Spain and Gibraltar, while upholding the Schengen area and EU Single Market.
Joint Schengen and Gibraltar checks will occur at Gibraltar’s port and airport, eliminating daily border controls at La Línea. Visa, permit, and police cooperation were agreed.
The customs union will see coordinated customs operations and no goods checks, alongside agreements on indirect taxation, including tobacco.
Commitments also include cooperation on state aid, taxation, labour, the environment, transport, and frontier workers’ rights. A financial mechanism will support cohesion and employment.
The Agreement reaffirms sovereignty positions and aims to ensure legal certainty, prosperity, and stability across the region.

But I want to know what's so special about Gibraltar? Why is Lammy totally fine with the economic damage that a hard border causes to the rest of the UK?
