Vets and nurses at ZSL Whipsnade zoo monitor Bashu, a 5-metre (16ft) reticulated giraffe. The animal is under general anaesthetic as specialist farriers perform a radical foot trim on his hooves and fit two custom-made shoes. Bashu will be monitored over the weekend as he recovers.

The Dabous Giraffes - neolithic petroglyphs found in Saharan Niger estimated to be 6,000 to 8,000 years old. The bigger of the two giraffes is 5.4 meters long and is the largest known petroglyph in the world.

#Giraffes? No, these are figurines of #horses. They are quite uncommon in southern Germany, exhibiting influences from the Eastern Hallstatt culture. The figurines were found in a burial mound in Römerstein-Zainingen, dating back to the 8th or 7th century BC.
