This is the Ruthven Lane Cat in the west end of Glasgow. It's high on a wall on the back of an old tenement building, and it really doesn't look like it belongs there. It's a bit of a mystery as to who put it there, and why.

Love this Scottish Baronial style double villa on Buckingham Street in the West End of Glasgow. Built in 1886, they were designed by the wonderfully named Horatio Kelson Bromhead (no relation to the equally wonderfully named Gonville Bromhead of Rorke's Drift fame).

1880s townhouses on Grosvenor Crescent in the West End of Glasgow. The first occupant of the two houses on the right is listed as Mrs Arnott, a china merchant at James Dymock & Co, whose premises were just around the corner at 309 Byres Road.

The imposing and rather stunning Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church on Observatory Road in the West End of Glasgow. Designed in a French Gothic style by James Sellars, it was inspired by the medieval Sainte Chapelle in Paris.

Old Rely-A-Bell burglar alarm box on Great George Street in the West End of in Glasgow. First created around 1904, Rely-A-Bell burglar alarms were initially manufactured by the London ironmonger Thomas Gunn. It was spun off into its own company, the Rely-a-Bell Burglar and Fire Alarm Company Limited, in 1921. It's believed to be the oldest burglar alarm company in the UK.

The Argyle Street Ash Tree in the West End of Glasgow. Believed to have been accidently planted when the tenemenets were built around 1850, this lone tree has somehow survived for almost 175 years. This makes it older than many other features of the West End, including the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow University's Gilmorehill Campus, and even the nearby Kelvingrove Park.

By the 1890s (bottom left), both the mill and much of the road had gone, and both Sauchiehall Street and Radnor Street had appeared. By the 1940s (bottom right), the area had been fully built up, and the land which the rest of Clayslaps Road once traversed had been changed into a bowling green.
Well, it's actually all that remains of a once much longer road which not only pre-dates both Sauchiehall Street and Randor Street, it also pre-dates much of the rest of the West End. The top right map is from around the 1850s and shows the original much longer Clayslaps Road leading all the way up to the now long gone Clayslap Mill on the banks of the River Kelvin.
