It’s nice that the online version of this #GlobeAndMail piece substitutes a group shot with #Zelenskyy for the one with #Trump in the paper version, the former being a genuine #leader, the latter an infantile, narcissistic criminal buffoon

One of the reasons the Internet is such a neat place is you can have niche interests and not feel weird.

The Globe and Mail doesn't often cover video games, but recently had a piece on Sega's Ecco the Dolphin:
theglobeandmail.com/life/artic

The Globe has 6M readers, and there are only 3 comments! Didn't everyone play Sega :)

For mainstream media, I find the Guardian has much better video game coverage.

"This was the Sovereign of Canada, speaking in defence of his realm. He was not merely asserting Canada’s sovereignty, in the face of repeated attempts to undermine and indeed mock it by (we have become numb to the enormity of this) the President of the United States. He was, by virtue of who he is and what he represents, reminding us of what it is based on."

"Throughout, JD Vance and Marco Rubio chortled obediently on the couch like Beavis and Butt-Head in nice suits."

A nice piece in the #GlobeandMail by Shannon Proudfoot on Carney's meeting with Trump yesterday.

“If I may, as you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale. We're sitting in one right now,” he said, looking around at the Oval Office. He added, “And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign the last several months, it’s not for sale, won’t be for sale, ever. But the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together.”Mr. Trump waited for him to finish, then countered blithely with “Never say never,” at which point Mr. Carney looked either toward his ministers perched on the couch or to the reporters beyond them, and mouthed the word “never” with cartoon exaggeration.

#MarkCarney goes to the Oval Office and learns a new skill from #DonaldTrump

After meeting at the Oval Office with Donald Trump, we know there is at least one colossal fool the Prime Minister will find a way to suffer quietly

I had a gift-article, I can't do that for you, but I'll try

I was reading the #globeandmail #Election20245 coverage and was surprised at how much anti DEI / woke there was in the #conservative platform. More shocking was how the party refused to answer questions about the platform.

Considering what a shot show is going on in the US, #Canada came just a few votes short of rolling the dice on, what could have been, a similar government. Moreover, the party ran on shutting down the CBC, which would have removed journalism from a huge swathe of people.

Today's smile 😂 I have voted, so even though this bring me great joy, if I hadn't already voted, I would go vote because articles like this encourage the anti-PP side to get complacent and not vote. I'm still smiling though 😆

#India was interested in the #CPC leadership principally because of #PatrickBrown, who once drew political benefit from PM Modi's support (at one point, to general surprise, he became leader of the Ontario Tories), but the two have since fallen out. India thus wanted to make sure Mr. Brown didn't win, but with his ouster from the race (for breaking unspecified rules), their main goal was satisfied.

CSIS alleges India organized support for Poilievre’s 2022 Conservative leadership bid

I'm sure everyone is surprised the issue of a security clearance is coming back to bite him.😏

"CSIS did not share this information with Mr. Poilievre, the source said, because he does not have the necessary security clearance to access secret documents and receive classified briefings on foreign-interference activities in Canada"

When someone says they are putting in 110% effort, I assume they are working really hard, but from this article the 110% effort actually means they are billing at that rate and not necessarily putting in the 110% effort.

TFW :canada: The Globe and Mail runs an Op-Ed titled "Donald Trump is Trying to Destroy Canada" theglobeandmail.com/opinion/ar and the headline is not even as strongly worded as the opening PM quote “What he wants is to see a total collapse of the Canadian economy, because that will make it easier to annex us.”

For non-Canadians, the Globe and Mail is roughly analogous to the USA's NYT. They are, very notably here, NOT owned by Postmedia.

You can follow that Op-Ed's writer @acoyne on Mastodon too.
