Last year my new year's resolution was to de-google my life and software. I did so completely and swiftly. Same with billionaire owned and curated junk media and websites. Walled garden websites are not worth my time. If EFF's Privacy Badger shows a tracker, I know they may be compromised. I remember well how to thrive before google and now greatly enjoying those pleasures again. Paper maps can be printed from open sources.

For this new year, I'll be working on my #GoBag and increasing my #OffGrid #solar capabilities. Opportunities in the USA are becoming very limited, so I will take them while still available.

When sleeping, I probably should dress in presentable pajamas and have a emergency #GoBag at the ready. Not worried about intruders as my property is totally privacy fenced, but the threat of wildfires is real here. I do my best to prevent and the volunteer fire department a few blocks away has a dozen restored vintage firetrucks (obsessed much LOL?) but we can't be too careful with environmental history relating to mass fires and climate change.

A guy breaking into my house, I'd likely interview him for a job offer and a quest (I stay practiced in martial arts so physical threats can be managed)

RED FLAG WARNING OVERNIGHT - TUESDAY: winds in western Washington flip offshore tonight through Tuesday. These offshore winds will lead to lowering relative humidity in and west of the Cascades down to around 30%. The low relative humidity paired with wind gusts of 25-35 mph will increase the fire risk tonight through Tuesday. It should be noted, the typical gap wind areas will see gusts up to 45 mph but this will be isolated in nature. Because of this, the Cascades and Cascade Foothills will see near-critical fire weather conditions -these areas are under the Red Flag Warning. Refrain from any activities that could cause a spark, have your go bag read with important documents and medications and know your evacuation zone in case you're told to evacuate. Also, never leave pets at home when you evacuate.

The posts going around with various "go bag" ideas have the right idea but I'd throw in this - when buying batteries to go with your torch (flashlight) get ones with a long shelf life. Lithium chemistry AAs can have a 20 year shelf life, and CR123s (different chemistry according to the internet) can go 10.

(on flashlights I'd recommend having at least a pair, one that takes a generally easy to come by cell size like AA, and a good high capacity rechargeable. I am very normal about flashlights)

What to put in your "go bag" for a fire or other emergency evacuation

What is a go bag?

"An emergency supply kit or go bag is typically a backpack filled with the essentials and personal documents. Cal Fire recommends everyone have their kit ready before a wildfire or disaster to ensure a quick evacuation and contain everything someone would need for an extended stay away from their home.

Go bags should contain the following:

- A 3-day supply of non-perishable food & 3 gallons of water per person
- A map with at least 2 evacuation routes
- Necessary prescriptions or medications
- A change of clothes & extra eyeglasses/contact lenses
- Extra car keys, credit cards, cash, or traveler's checks
- A first aid kit & sanitation supplies
- A flashlight & battery-powered radio with extra batteries

Also, ensure the pack contains any copies of important documents, including birth certificates, passports, IDs, etc."
