We are, as a whole, too attached to vain things.

Don't get me wrong, things of this earth were created by God for us to enjoy, and that is good and right. But when we can not live without them, when they supplant our need for God, when we look to them instead of the things above, we are too attached.

The strongest faith I have seen was not in people who had everything but those that society abandoned. The woman on the street corner who wasn't sure when she was going to eat again. The girl who asked me to drive her across town because she had to take care of her mother, both of whom hadn't eaten, neither of whom could get jobs.
We should strive to be more like them, to be lovers of poverty. It's when we have nothing, that we learn how much we need Him.

Two of my favorite things are forests and snow. Comes from growing up in Northern Michigan, where winter lasts nine months and everything is either pine trees or corn. So when you combine the two, especially when it's heavy, thick snowflakes that muffle the whole world... I just plain love it.
