Anyone having issues with @ivory losing its place in the timeline recently?
I’m using it on #GoToSocial 0.20 and it’s constantly losing position by 20 or so posts as I jump in and out of reading replies.
This is literally the only reason I use ivory. Rock solid timeline position.
Alright, updated #GoToSocial to version 20. Worked well again. I took the risky path and skipped the backup, because my lil host didn't have enough storage. There's still the host backup just in case, but that isn't live, so there was the risk of llosing some posts.
I panicked for a second, because there was some error in the logs seemingly from the migration, but when I restarted it, everything seemed fine
I've updated my Gotosocial instance to v0.20.0 Sinister Sloth and it all seems to be working well. Nipped to Aldi while the database was updating and decided to treat myself to a six pack of... C'mon people, make up your mind, which one is it? #gotosocial #afbeer

Alt-text on images is only a thing on Mastodon and amongst Pixelfed users who are also on Mastodon.
Fediblocking entire servers for a too low quota of sufficiently accurate, sufficiently detailed, rule-conforming alt-text would end up defederating Mastodon from most of the rest of the Fediverse. It would end up in the Fediblocking of entire Fediverse server application types. Pleroma, Akkoma, Misskey, Calckey, Firefish, Iceshrimp-JS, Iceshrimp.NET, CherryPick, Sharkey, Catodon, Smithereen, snac, GoToSocial, Mitra, Socialhome, Friendica, Hubzilla, (streams), Forte, Lemmy, /kbin, Mbin, PieFed, nodeBB, WordPress, Ghost, Flipboard, Plume and a whole lot of others would end up being defederated from Mastodon in their entirety because they don't have alt-text (and everyone upping their game in alt-text style, accuracy and level of detail) as an integral part of their culture.
Basically, from Mastodon's point of view, the Fediverse would end up actually being only Mastodon because Mastodon would have defederated with everything else, server by server.
I think I'm the only one on Hubzilla who actually describes their images. I'm definitely the only one amongst the few dozen (streams) users who does. But even if I put more time and effort into describing images than just about anyone else in the Fediverse, I think that wouldn't be enough to save either server application from being defederated from Mastodon in their entirety as long as not everyone else adds sufficiently accurate, sufficiently detailed, rule-conforming alt-texts to every last one of their images, as cumbersome as that may be on Hubzilla.

My migration from Mastodon to GoToSocial is complete. All posts on this account before Oct 10th 2025 are imported from my old account.
I will leave my old Mastodon instance running for a couple of weeks before turning it off completely.

pretty sure I just successfully updated my @gotosocial instance to v0.20.0!
it's my first time, but i stopped my instance, pulled the latest version, then turned it on again and it's showing as v0.20.0 in `./gotosocial --version` which is a good sign?

It is amazing how much more responsible GoToSocial is compared to Mastodon. And my Mastodon instance was running on a bare metal server with lots of CPU and RAM.
Also my slurp import of my old posts is now working, so I can eventually disable my old mastodon instance.

Is it normal that in my instance's federated timeline there are boosted toots from people I follow?
Feedback from an Ivory client POV: it seems the client was puzzled about what happened to the feed. Like not all new posts (from me) appeared when it did on Phanpy. But on the next morning, Ivory came back to normal behavior. I read that some ordering stuff in TL assets happened during the DB migration. It’s probably Ivory’s message cache that had to be updated too.
