The Pearmain graft onto my species Malus is messy. The graft police would not approve. It worked though and now I have pink apple blossom from the fruit apple section.

Hoping it will set some.

Grafting the old school way with rubber bands and cling film. Forgot my buddy tape, which is way easier and faster. Nice to know other materials will still work. Cambium just needs to meet, the scion doesn't dry out or get loose. Then it will be fine.#grafting #plantnursery #MakingTrees

This is self amalgamating tape that is holding a grafted Scion, cambium to cambium on a rootstock. The tub nearer to the right has trees grafted with the mid season tasty apple that overhangs the ruined greenhouse. The tub further away and to the left has saplings grafted with scions from the late, quite tart apple. There are two steel poles, off an old airing line in the picture and a brick wall in the background.

Grafting is a great skill to have. You have many more options for varieties, and it saves a lot of money versus nursery-grown trees. I graft 20-30 fruit trees every spring to distribute in my community.

#grafting day. Im trying a layer of teflon tape to protect the bark of these peach seedlings. Last year the electrical tape tore outer bark when i tried to remove the tape ...an outer layer of medical cloth tape keeps everything tight.
