I recently gave the #GrandSeiko SBGY011 aka Asaborake a try at the AD. It is a nice dress watch featuring a beautiful dial pattern, a thin 44GS case and a 9R31 manual Spring Drive.

With that said, I feel like it is a bit too big for that style at 40mm diameter and 46mm lug-to-lug. A manual version of the 9RB2 may solve that someday. Also maybe I got spoiled by the mechanical 9SA4 but it is a shame that the 9R31 is almost entirely covered.

The newly announced #GrandSeiko SLGW007 is basically a dark blue version of the 003. I appreciate the new dial color and new straps. Not sure why they decided to switch from titanium to steel for the case since the watch is very light either way. I haven’t had the #GrandSeiko SLGW005 for long. But I feel ok giving my opinion because it is somewhat similar to the SLGW003 I own and I already did a lot of research on the vintage 4520-8000 it is paying hommage to.
- case/dial/pin buckle are remake of 4520-8000. 45GS case shape but at 38mm, old style hands/markers, double-signed branding, Daini logo
- movement is 9SA4, same as SLGW003
I love how it is both a remake and the subdued sibling of the Birch Bark.

I have been wearing this #GrandSeiko SLGW003 for a few weeks now and it’s great. Not much to say about it. I have had my eyes on it ever since it was shown to me at Studio Shizukuishi during my last trip to Japan. It’s the perfect dress watch. Evolution9 case is 38mm wide, made of titanium. The #GrandSeiko SLGH027 is pretty much exactly what you would expect from any reference of the Evo9 collection: Evo9 case, 40mm, ever brilliant steel, 9SA5 caliber. The only notable novelty is the new icy-blue Mt Iwate dial which differs a lot from 1st gen Mt Iwate pattern. The SBGW323 is a very straight forward dress watch running on caliber 9S64 with no date, a beautiful purple kiri dial and a comfy 36mm 44GS case made of steel. #watches #watchesofmastodon

There is obviously a huge difference in size between the #GrandSeiko SLGC009 and SLGB003. 43mm vs 37mm. If you have seen the original Tentagraph SLGC001, the newer SLGC007 is basically a variant. Surprisingly light thanks to titanium. Beautiful Mt Iwate pattern dial with panda-style configuration. #watches #watchesofmastodon

My impressions of the #GrandSeiko SLGC009:
- it is indeed huge and thick, very hard to wear if you have smaller wrists
- it is definitely a statement piece to show off with aggressive lines and angular case
- dial pattern will be a bit divisive but it does look better in person
- rubber straps help a lot with the odd shape of the case and lugs, not sure what would happen with any other straps
- chronograph pushers are very satisfying, finishing is top notch #watches #watchesofmastodon
