This means many-particle effects are important, perhaps creating conditions for superconductivity, just by twisting two layers of graphene! Above are miniband structures I calculated for the angle being 2° - you can see Dirac cones with some dispersion - and 1.1°, a magic angle for which flat bands appear. [2/2]

Did you know that if you put two sheets of graphene together and rotate them to a so-called "magic" angle, the innermost bands become flat - meaning the momentum doesn't depend on energy so the particles can change momentum without needing to gain or lose energy. [1/2]

A plot of band structure along a high symmetry momentum path in 2D for 2° twisted bilayer graphene. Notable features are the Dirac cones at K and K' with a slightly reduced velocity as compared to monolayer graphene.A plot of band structure along a high symmetry momentum path in 2D for 1.1° twisted bilayer graphene. The notable feature is that the velocity of the innermost bands has reduced so much that they are flat across the whole mini Brillouin zone.

How do you get another bowser installed on #graphene os? f-droid does not offer one and other sources seem somehow suspicious compared to the efforts I took wiping and installing my phone for security reasons.

Fudan Uni's PoX is a record graphene flash memory. Programs data in 400 picoseconds, 100k times faster than previous tech. Huge potential for speeding up AI while cutting energy use by tackling memory limits.

World's Fastest Graphene Flash Memory Writes Data in Picoseconds.

https://interestingengineering.com/innovation/china-worlds-fastest-flash-memory-device

A team at Fudan University in China claims to have developed a
#flash-#memory device based on two‑dimensional Dirac #graphene that is as fast as #SRAM (static RAM). Of course, this being the generative-"AI"-obsessed world we now live in, the article goes straight to enthusing about future AI hardware. But this could be so much more important than that. Just imagine the impact on computer design and architecture if we could eliminate the distinction between main memory, cache, and mass storage — if all of a system's mass storage could be accessed at the speeds now possible only to CPU-local cache.

And it goes beyond that in non-obvious ways. Almost all but a tiny bit of memory in modern computer systems is
#DRAM — dynamic RAM. DRAM must be constantly "refreshed", every few milliseconds or less, to keep its contents. And that takes power — and it's still slower than SRAM. Imagine eliminating at a stroke all of that memory refresh power consumption. Imagine computers, of all levels of computing power, that could be effectively instant-on, instant-off. Processing on demand, with no need for a hibernation file.

We need a free/libre fork of #Android for the public commons. Google cannot be trusted.

Maybe that could be #lineageos or #Graphene, but given that they build on top of Android rather than driving the core development, I'm not certain they would be enough as it stands.

@michaelharley I suggest having a look at #GrapheneOS. My motivations and rationale are similar to yours, and while I lament having to give Google money and mind share, #Graphene makes it worthwhile.

#physics #graphene #technology

For those interested in physics and technology it has just been announced that there has been a breakthrough regarding graphene. A scientist has managed to achieve orbital hybridisation of graphene based atoms. Why is this important? It potentially allows further development of nano-technology particularly in the field of quantum computing and nanoelectronics.

@ernmander The perils of being on the leading edge! Is #graphene the best way forward now? I am on the lookout for the right #opensource system and device to #degoogle . Not sure which way to go.
