Une "documentation" en une image pour la création de la disquette : j'ai téléchargé l'image sur le site https://sebhc.github.io/sebhc/ , et j'ai ajouté les métadonnées manquantes avec HxCFloppyEmulator (FM, 40 pistes, 10 secteurs, 256 octets/secteur, etc ...) puis exporté un fichier .hfe qui a servi à créer la disquette avec la carte #GreaseWeazle

A chance find and a whim later, I just picked up three Kaypro 2 units from someone an hour away. I have no history or prior ties with Kaypros, but seemed a fun project. One supposedly works, the other two in lesser states. I’ll have some fun perhaps fixing those. I do need a boot floppy, though.

Anyone know if I can use the drives in these with a Greaseweazle 4.1 and the source for an image? Or could I arrange with someone to obtain a disc by mail? #retrocomputing #GreaseWeazle #kaypro2

Managed to recover nearly all data from two floppy diskettes with quite bad physical damage - magnetic media scraped by a crashed drive head.

Some stitching, some guessing, some binwalking, some photorec'ing and all* files are safe and sound, with only minor damages.

Moral of the story: Don't use cheap USB floppy disk drives.

Weird thing about the Greaseweazle disc imaging... In the likely incorrect belief that my actual BBC drives were single-sided, I imaged a lot of disks using a Matsushita ja-551-027. This is a 360K PC drive, i.e. supposedly 40 track.

With the BBC, some of the disks were 80 track, but they weren't marked as such. Weirdly, I was able to read many of them on this 40 track drive using parameters recommended for Watford Electronics DDFS disks, giving a warning that the track was 188% of the expected length.

I did not think this was physically possible.

Weekend progress on #RecoveryWhiskers :

Once the sectors containing the file allocation tables (FAT) is read, it will show you their size or if the FAT is empty.

next up will be adding a file listing and also make the program smarter so if it detects a large area of empty sectors and that area is empty at the file allocation table (if this is read correctly) then it should assume these are actually empty sectors.

I didn't get to it this weekend and I have work to do that pays for my my living (ugh)

What about copying the raw flux data using a #Greaseweazle? That should copy everything, including copy protection. Having the raw data gives you all opportunities down the road.

ADFDiskBox is a graphical user interface for the Greaseweazle Host Tools and is intended to simplify the reading and writing of Amiga disks and disk images (ADF, SCP:AmigaDOS, RawSCP).

With version 2.6.3, saving settings should now work again.

I have just published the first version of Greaseweazle-rs, a Rust library for talking to a Greaseweazle. It provides finer-grained control than the standard CLI, but with the caveat that it's just a library, and you have to write the rest of the program!

I have a TEAC FD-55GFR, as far as I'm aware it's normally not able to write to anything lesser than High Density (1.2MB) 5.25 diskettes (just based on an info page I found)

It does seem that the Greaseweazle can force it to write to lesser density disks, but, perhaps only on one side? I can only get it to write on what I believe is the 'top' side (ie. the side when intended orientation is used when you insert the disk)

The disks are BASF branded labelled as 2S/2D, which I *assume* means they are 2-sided and double-density, but now I am doubting myself or these disks are incorrectly labeled!

If anyone knows anything that'd be cool :>

For #525FloppyDay I chose to post a picture of a box with disks containing old a new software (as recent as 2000) for #apple2.

This box has been a bit of problem for me to read correctly and I think the problem lies that all my drives for archiving have their track 0 sensor calibrated correctly. This box of floppies have been likely written with an Apple Disk 2 - those don't have a track 0 sensor and the alignment can be all over the place.

I don't have a good plan on how to connect my Apple Disk 2 with a #greaseweazle right now, another solution could be to acquire another 40 track 5 1/4 inch drive and play with the track 0 sensor.
Another plan could be to acquire a calibration disk, so I can re-adjust my regular floppy drive I use for archiving, but these seem to be almost impossible to find. Suggestions welcome!

Weekend project on hold. Was going to temporarily "donate" the mechanism from an #Amiga A1011 3.5" drive to a #GreaseWeazle interface so I can read a stack of my old floppy disks from my Amiga days.

I forgot the original Amiga drives were non-standard 24 pin affairs and not normal Shugart 34 pin things.

So random internal drive bought from Ebay and project on hold for a week.

J'ai rebranché ma carte Flex 6809 sur un vrai lecteur de disquettes, et au préalable j'ai créé avec la carte #GreaseWeazle une disquette à partir d'un fichier image (le même que j'utilisais précédemment avec le lecteur #gotek , c'est tout le but de l'exercice !).
Et j'avais créé cette image disque avec un petit outil maison permettant de manipuler fichiers et disquettes au format Flex.

Et voici une carte #GreaseWeazle qui permet de lire et écrire des images de disquettes avec un PC moderne. C'est du logiciel libre et la carte ne coûte que 30€.
Je vais essayer d'utiliser ça pour créer des disquettes pour ma carte #mc6809 Flex.
