Jalohaikarat löysivät kosteikolle. Great white egrets found their way to wetland.
Pienehköllä kosteikkoalueella on ollut aika paljon vipinää: laulujoutsenpari, kurkia, välillä lokkeja ja tiiroja, silkki- ja mustakurkku-uikkuja, töyhtöhyyppiä, noki- ja liejukanoja, monenmoisia sorsia, pikkulintuja ja kahlaajia, kana- ja varpushaukkakin on vilahtanut ohitse... Jalohaikarat mahtuvat mukaan ja suhtautumista muihin lintuihin on ollut opettavaista seurata.

1. kuvassa taitaa olla emo ja sen viime vuoden poikanen, joka vaikutti aralta ja seurasi tätä mustanokkaista lintua tiiviisti.
2. kuvassa kaksi nuorta lintua, toisella kalasaalis, joten toinenkin on valppaana ja astelee lähemmäksi (kalat usein liikkuvat parvissa).
3. kuvassa haikarat lepäävät ja kurki tepastelee taustalla.
4. kuvassa kurki saa kyytiä. Viisi kurkea laskeutui vierailemaan hyvältä näyttävälle kosteikolle, mutta siellä pesivät kaksi kurkiparia eivät niitä kauan katselleet ja karkottivat pois. Omille tuleville poikasille pitää turvata hyvät elinmahdollisuudet ja riittävä ravinto.

Ein Silberreiher vor weißen Hintergrund. Von der Seite aufgenommen. Der Reiher hat die schwingen voll geöffnet und den Schnabel offen zum Ruf.

A photograph of a Great White Egret hunting in the reeds at Sculthorpe Moor. The water is very dark showing the white bird and its white reflection very well.

Visited #WWTWelney today, where I saw about 30 #CattleEgrets alongside the cows while drinking my tea in the cafe. Then saw a #GreatWhiteEgret in the reeds from the main hide. Finally, walking around Lady Fen I saw a couple more #GreatWhiteEgrets mixed in with the #CattleEgret - clearly distinguishable by the huge size difference (pictured). Don’t be taken in just because they’re near cows!

A Great White Egret is standing in the water near reeds.

A #GreatWhiteEgret approaching its nest at the rookery in Fergus Falls. This photo was taken in 2018. Since then a number of trees in the area have fallen due to storms putting the future of the rookery in question.

The Great Egret is a dazzling sight dressed all in white and set against the dark background as it flies towards a brilliant red Maple tree in fall. A tall, stately white wader of quiet waters it takes flight when disturbed.

Hidden gems ...

I was browsing through photos this morning and came across this photo of a juvenile white ibis and a great white egret. I took this in Georgia during the Thanksgiving holiday at an almost hidden pond across from my hotel. I originally set it aside in my head as not usable. But after looking at it this morning, I changed my mind. It presents a peaceful, calming quality of nature.

In this photo there is a pond, ripples are seen, particularly in the distance. There two birds present, barely more than silhouettes. The bird on the right is a whited ibis faced right long legs, large body long neck, and long beak that curves down. On the right is a great egret with its very long neck lifted up in the air whit its head turned to the left; at this angle and in this lighting the egret's beak appears shorter than it actually is. What really makes the photo appealing it both the silhouettes of the birds are reflected in the pond.

The juvenile Green Heron is a dark, stocky bird hunched on slender orange/yellow legs usually at the water’s edge, often hidden behind a tangle of leaves, except in this image where it has just landed on a dead tree stump with it's freshly caught fish that is wrapped around it's beak. The bright orange legs are the color in breeding season.Seen up close, it is a striking bird with a velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, and a dark cap often raised into a short crest. These small herons crouch patiently to surprise fish with a snatch of their daggerlike bill.

A tall, stately white wader of quiet waters it takes flight when disturbed. The Grand River at Wilson's Flats Elora/Inverhaugh Ontario has been known to host the odd Egret and I was thrilled to see it in flight.

It's fun photographing these birds. This one seems to have stepped into a studio atop a pedestal. I took this photo at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, Louisiana.
