I asked work colleagues (aged from early 20s to their 30s, 3 from UK, one from RO and other from ZW) if they had been taught about processing and #refining of #crudeoil during #science lessons at high school during 90s/2000s.
When I was in high school myself, every other science lesson was about it (and a good portion of teaching materials were corporate propaganda from #BP / #Shell)
Only the lady from Zimbabwe had been taught about #oil and #coal (possibly with similar material to my generation!), the chap from Romania (with an interest in cars) did know a bit about it but had not learned in school.
It is not surprising there is limited knowledge of the impacts of #fossilfuel amongst recent generations (ironically, it may even have been #greenwashed out of #education !)

A *backfire effect* occurs when l make the mistake of thinking that the evidence, that logical reasoning, will result in the behaviour change of another person's unethical activities (caused by their associated beliefs), but instead, the person feels threatened (e.g., offended) by the evidence, & "holds" onto their mistaken beliefs.
I.e., l aim to change their minds using the evidence but the opposite happens; due to how the evidence offends them

The point to consider is that there is only me trying to inform (or rather I used to) the adults in the village about the medical & enviro evidence
But, the industries spread disinfromation on a, well, industrial scale. For example, the local wood fuel businesses post leaflets containing disinformation to local people's addresses. The politcians that many local folk watch on TV talk nonsense. The adverts sell stuff, not inform folk about a product's negative effects

The majority of people are relatively ignorant & arrogant (e.g., hubris) Generally, this is because they're relatively scientifically illiterate, therefore, have not learnt to base their knowledge on evidence. They trust people like them. E.g., politicians & business people with similar agendas as their own.
The #ClimateCrisis is being caused by a peoples that either don't know (ignorant) or & don't care (unethical. E.g., the fossil fuel industry)
I should write something positive about the fact that l live in a culture where many adults know that their behaviours & activities are causing #ClimateChange, but do them anyway 🤬
At least their trying to be happy 🙃 Now l understand the point of having an upside down smiling emoji.
The hardest things to do are the things that they have been #greenwashed to not want to do.
#science generally nurtures wish based believing out of people that then find the"truth" liberating.
I do think many adults are relatively fools & here is why. They act like fools! (a fool can't perceive it)
First a definition. My definition of a fool is when you say "X" is harmful to a person that is doing "X". But the person turns out to be a fool because they simply feel offended & continue to want to do "X" anyway (low curiosity & or immoral)
Greenwashing fools & #greenwashed fools (foolish minds think alike) are causing a #ClimateCrisis

l overheard a conversation about the forest fires in #Rhodes. The conversation went like this "well, l hope those fires are put out soon or l will have to cancel our family holiday".
The other person agreed that the forest fires were very inconvenient.
They didn't mention #ClimateChange
Why would they? They want to believe it's someone else's problem. The politicians & industry (advertising) tell them they're dealing with the problem
An ecological catastrophe is already happening, whether folk believe or care about that or not.
For many people: hope, denial, fear & greed regulates what they believe to be real.
The science is clear! Burning Carbon based fuels = hell on Earth (Cause & effect)
Therefore, not burning fuels is part of the solution.
Inhaling air pollution, the byproduct of burning fuels, causes brain damage, cancer, cardiovascular & respiratory diseases.
But, they're #GreenWashed
