Tidbit from a local ham: they went to Big Bear in a bus over the weekend for a ski trip with the local ski club, but the bus got stuck in a parking lot because the diesel fuel froze (apparently you have to have the right formulation to avoid freezing). And he never managed to get to the slopes. And one of the folks he went on the trip with fell over and died while they were checking into the condos (!). #hamradio #chatter

20M was great this morning it was just opening up when I started. I am pretty surprised because I only called CQ maybe 8 times and just closed each QSO in the pileup with `73 DE KF0UNK`.

If someone wondered whether FT2 author respects license of wsjt-x.

I work my ass off and you want to enjoy it?? I've been working on the Wsjt-x code for years, why haven't you done it? My studies and sacrifices to give you the ready-made food? I have to refine the code first, then when it's ready, I'm the only one who decides when, what and how to give it.

I don't like posting videos directly to mastodon because bandwidth isn't free, but here's a short clip of my current G90 setup at home.

Not shown is the 29ft EFRW common mode choke and 9:1 with the radiator taped to my bedroom wall near the ceiling.

Yes, I still log on paper when I have my laptop out lol

RE: social.darc.de/@DJ5CW/11609368

Looks like some AI generated marketing here to be honest... First question that comes up: given that it is said to be based on the WSJT source code that is available under GPL, when will the developers of FT2 publish their source code?

In the process of writing a #perl script to pull my most recent QSOs from #QRZ's #LogbookAPI and import them into a #hugo site, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get recent ones without fetching the entire logbook.
The MAX option seemed to be the answer, but it's counting from the start; i.e. MAX=5 returns the *first *five QSOs in the logbook instead of the last 5.

Anyone have a solution?

@ARISS_Intl Great contact and the participants asked really good questions! Chris again did a wonderful job answering them. It's always a pleasure to listen to these contacts.

I was a little late starting the recording so I missed the first part, unfortunately.

The rough argument, which I find is rather neat, goes like this:

If reflection depends on the phase of the incoming signal, a signal with a slight but not too large frequency offset will have a constantly changing phase with respect to the carrier. If as a consequence, the reflection coefficient changes, the product will contain new frequencies. The more the reflection factor changes, the stronger these would be. It so turns out that the dominant component is just a mirror image of the stimulus.

Consider for example this.low precision sweep for a small push pull amp with rather large input drive. The little peak right below the carrier is my proof that the amplifier does not possess a unique, innate output impedance and thus reflection coefficient.

Große Ehre für Peter Gülzow, DB2OS! 🛰️📻

Die Space.Table-Redaktion hat ihn in die „Top 100 der Raumfahrt-Szene 2025/26“ gewählt. In der Kategorie Verbände zählt der Präsident der AMSAT-DL damit zu den 10 prägendsten Köpfen der Branche.

Besonders gewürdigt wird sein jahrzehntelanges Engagement, das unter anderem den ersten geostationären Amateurfunk-Transponder QO-100 ermöglichte. Ein Meilenstein für die internationale Community!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Peter! 👏

Antartica Activity Week 2026

I had a blast yesterday, sorry for sometimes not picking up calls right away, QSB along with some static noise is rather cruel down here.

For the weekend I am planning to participate in the ARRL WW DX contest, but will shuffle in some other oportunities for CW and SSB as well.

Here is the schedule for activities by DP0POL/mm for today until Sunday morning (all times in UTC).

Friday:
08:30z - 09:30z 7010kHz and 10.110KHz CW
09:30z - 10:30z 10.110KHz and 14010kHz CW
15:00z - 16:00z 28010kHz and 24910kHz CW
18:30z - 18:50z 24940KHz SSB
20:00z - 20:30z 18120 kHz and 14110kHz SSB
21:00z - 22:00z 18078kHz and 14010kHz CW
22:00z - 23:00z 14010kHz and 10.110KHz CW

Saturday:
08:30z - 09:30z 10110KHz CW
09:30z - 10:30z 10110KHz CW and 14110kHz SSB
15:00z - 16:00z 28010kHz CW and 24940kHz SSB
18:30z - 18:50z 18078 kHz CW and 14110kHz SSB
20:00z - 20:30z 18078 kHz CW and 14110kHz SSB

Additionally I'll try FT8 on 80m:
01:00z - 02:00z 80m FT8 (Saturday and Sunday morning)

As usual, if two frequencies are stated, I will call for 5 minutes on the first frequency, then switch to the second frequency in case of no response, and call there for 5 minutes, then switch to FT8.
This repeats every 30 minutes until the end of activity.

For FT8, tune to the standard frequency +1Khz.

73 and looking forward working you!

I have been considering my audio based waterfall feature in planning JJ Flex. I know that over halloween, hams and pirates made pictures on the waterfall. I wonder how hard it would be to make music across the bands on an audio based waterfall. So much band dstruction for fun lol. #hamradio #SoftwareDefinedRadio

Guess I prefer the DX opportunities that FT8 brings, over the quantity of contacts - so, more sensitivity is better. (I miss JT9!) I can see the contesting appeal of FT4, and more so this new FT2 (but I’m not a contester)… and it gives extra contact opportunities when the FT8 frequency is chock-full of operators (there are usually a few FT4 ops around). #HamRadio
