This little quarto sized book is made from short grain warm white Church's paper, wooqu book cloth, and printed through inkjet. Endpapers hand painted by me using calligraphy ink. Original typeset by me, for personal use only. Cover designed by me using Canva.

Story of Your Life is a sci-fi short story by Ted Chiang. It was the basis for the sci-fi movie Arrival (2016).

Allure bookcloth is perfect for hand foiling using a foil quill. I used silver Memory Keeper’s foil and green copper back foil. The edges of the book were foiled with the same green foil using a mini cricut iron. Endpapers are from a Craft Consortium paper. Typeface featured on the cover is TT Phobos Stencil.

Epic: The Muscial Lyric Book

I hope this video will explain how the foiling happens. I created a design for the cover and printed it in plain recycled paper. After securing the foil to the cover, I lay the design over the foil and trace it with the quill, the nib of which is heated metal. It takes practice to figure out how much pressure is needed and how long the quill should stay on any section.

Hozier Lyric Book

Trimmed the edges, sacrificed some blood to the bookbinding gods, sewed endbands, and printed the end papers and cover. So far it’s my most successful book trimmed using only a chisel.

Here’s a reel that depicts what I intended to be the overall experience of holding and opening this book. The dust cover depicts the Ubik and the advertisement on the back in relatively normal fashion, only to be revealed as distorted and regressed once the dust cover is removed. All the ads for each chapter in the book are similarly designed.
