A month ago my doctor recommended I take up a primarily #Mediterranean #Diet as it's #heartHealthy and I'm suffering from heart failure. I was really apprehensive about going Mediterranean as there are so many tomatoes.

The hardest part of the #HeartHealthy regiment my cardiologist has put me on hasn't been the change to a primary #Mediterranean #Diet, the reeducation in sodium to less than 2000mg a day, nor the reduction in calories to less than 1700 a day but limiting liquid intake to no more than 64 FL Oz a day.Apparently my heart meds cause me to retain water. I know people have often complained about how hard it is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but I've never found that hard, when I realized that she was also including coffee, beer, etc. in my 64 FL Oz, it felt impossible. I've reduced my self down to only one cup of coffee a day (from a max of like 2 and a half pots 20 years ago). I have changed from drinking water from the giant stadium cup we got from the baseball games to using the small plastic cups my kids have got from restaurants and trying to take my meds with my meal water rather than its own, but I'm still parched. I still find myself putting my head under the sink to get a drink every-time I enter the bathroom. This often includes wandering around the house during my work hours while I'm thinking how to address a given engineering solution.

So its been just about 3 weeks on this most #Mediterrian #Diet wathcing calories, sodium, and monitoring weight and blood-pressure for help to build a #heartHealthy life while living with heart failure. I've noticed that TUESDAYS seem to be the ones that give me trouble, goving over in either sodium or calories. I wonder why that is. There is nothing particularly different about Tuesdays than any other weekday.

Wearing a #ContinuousGlucoseMonitor aka #CGM for the last 10 days has been a true adventure and realization that #Diabetes is a very complicated condition. I “only” have #PreDiabetes or so I’m told but just preventing my glucose spikes & lows has been SO challenging.

When I first saw the spikes I was shocked. But cutting carbs that were causing them proved to be quite complicated. And then as my glucose seem to level off, I didn’t feel so good and even went into arrhythmia yesterday which is rather rare for me.

I also discovered that there could be many reasons why this occurs. I am so happy that I am booked to see an endocrinologist even though it’s only in January. But now I’m also trying to move the appointment sooner.

I bet many non-diabetics like me have an overly simplistic view of this condition for which there can be, it sounds like, many causes.

I thought eating a #HeartHealthy diet was challenging but I think I’m about to discover something even more tricky.

I’m trying to stay calm but I’ll admit it hasn’t been easy.

Regarding my pre-diabetes I feel that being told to eat less bread and pasta was not useful advice. There seem to be an assumption I was not eating well.

Fortunately I have a referral to have this looked into. I cannot wait.

Had this for tonight’s supper… so delicious, fragrant, & healthy! We used lacinato kale instead of cilantro, omitted the bay leaf, and threw in some leftover brown basmati rice. YUM! Definite keeper. 😋

Sort of shaken today from what I would call an “internalized #meltdown” - it makes it look like everything was mostly fine but I’m still very shaken & it’s been 5 hours. But I’m still in #SinusRhythm. Lately I’ve had a number of #Afib episodes recurrences.

I worked through the meltdown. I’m proud of my achievement (see #DIY #FencePostHole cutout through concrete photo) with only a grinder and a hammer drill. 👍🏻 And I’m not even that upset that there’s a big stone 🙄 😂 So I have to expand toward the right… 😝 But working through meltdown is not #HeartHealthy

I’m working on minimizing meltdowns, obvious or not. It’s not good for my 🫀⚕️ #Heart #Health. If like me you’re #ActuallyAutistic & have learnt to hide your stress starting in early childhood, let’s try to find a way out of this. If people saw my stress at its on-start rather than push me till it’s too late, I probably would never be pushed to the meltdown stage. More on that later.
