#OnThisDay 23 February 2016, Queen Elizabeth II visited the under-construction Bond Street station as Boris Johnson, then Mayor of #London, announced Crossrail would be renamed the Elizabeth line in her honour. Joined by #Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin and senior transport figures, she toured the site and was presented with a commemorative roundel. The railway, later known as the Elizabeth line, was expected to transform travel across London and the South East, supporting thousands of jobs and new homes while boosting the economy. Running from Reading and #Heathrow to Shenfield and Abbey Wood, it was designed to increase rail capacity and carry more than half a million passengers a day when fully open.

#Transport for #London has reminded customers that Tube and rail #fares will rise from 1 March 2026, in line with the Government’s funding settlement, while bus and tram fares will remain frozen until 5 July 2026 as a cost-of-living measure. Travelcards and daily and weekly caps are frozen until March 2027. No single pay as you go Tube fare in Zones 1–6 will increase by more than 20p. Elizabeth line fares from Zone 1 to #Heathrow will rise to £15.50 for a single journey, though caps protect regular travellers.

Free travel on routes SL4, 108 and 129, introduced with the new Silvertown Tunnel, has been extended until 26 May 2026, alongside free cycle shuttle services and DLR cross-river refunds. The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, said the freeze supports lower-income Londoners.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has published a response to a request for details of #business travel and expense claims covering specific personnel over defined employment periods. TfL confirmed it holds some of the requested information and that all travel was assessed under its #Travel at Work and Business Expenses policies, with a focus on reducing travel, using remote meetings where appropriate and selecting #sustainable options. Some accommodation records are no longer held due to retention policies. The disclosed data shows most claims relate to ticketing and payment testing, including Oyster and future payment systems, alongside operational projects such as #Heathrow integration, contractor meetings and regional site visits. Other expenses relate to attendance at #UK and international industry events, committee meetings, subsistence, and limited taxi use during service disruption or late-night working.

#DoronAlmog, a retired Israel Defense Forces major general who is expected to travel with the president in his capacity as chair of the Jewish Agency for Israel, has formerly faced #ArrestWarrants over allegations he committed #WarCrimes in Gaza in 2002.

Almog denies the allegations.

A decorated former officer in the Israel Defense Forces, and recipient of the nation’s highest honour, the Israel prize, Almog narrowly escaped arrest at London’s #Heathrow airport in 2005 when he refused to leave an El Al plane on the tarmac after he was tipped off that a #warrant had been issued for his #arrest.”

A Westminster Hall debate on #Transport in the South East took place on 3 February 2026, opened by Jess Brown-Fuller MP. Buses in the region are largely deregulated, though the Bus Services Act 2025 allows local authorities to franchise routes. The South East has an extensive rail network, served by operators including Avanti West Coast, Chiltern, GWR, CrossCountry, South Western, Southern, Thameslink and Southeastern, with major projects including East-West Rail and HS2. National Highways manages strategic roads, while local roads fall to county or unitary councils; the Lower Thames Crossing is a key project. #Heathrow and #Gatwick #airports may expand, and major ferry routes link the Isle of Wight and #France.
