This is a tragedy, and I feel with the family. There is nothing personal in this post. I do not know the individuals or the exact circumstances.
Nevertheless, a child dies unnecessarily from #measles in #Liverpool. This is a disease that we most probably could eradicate by #vaccination. However, we are moving backwards into darker times. More and more people refuse #vaccines that make our lives safer (personally and as a society). Parents put their children's lives and the lives of immunocompromised individuals, who depend on #HerdImmunity, unnecessarily at risk.

To contain infections in the population 95% need to be vaccinated to get herd immunity. See picture on how herd immunity works. Even a small decrease in measles vaccinations will revert herd immunity. That is what is happening in the US.

This is a serious outbreak. If immunization rates are not high enough for #herdImmunity (which is a number no one actually knows… but we’re going to have a much better idea in about 2-3 months!) then measles is so infectious - it’s literally the most infectious disease known to mankind - that it will pretty much inevitably infect everyone who is not immune either from vaccination or childhood infection, up until we get back to herd immunity.
