A clear night sky with stars visible overhead. In front of me, I see dark shadowy hills against the sky that’s just beginning to brighten in a bit of pink. There’s long visibility today, I can see the lights of Alliston over the hills and Highway 89 traffic coming west beyond. The shrubbery area ahead of me is all pretty dark and shadowy.

One of these days, I may figure out how to take better pictures of the moon with this phone. The phone lightened the whole thing up, the moon appearing much brighter, and the trees showing a little bit of colour that I couldn’t see with my eyes.

<p>Almost all who paint in oils use conventional brushes, but there’s a significant minority who sometimes, or frequently, use different tools to apply and shape the paint layer. Of those, the most popular are palette knives, generally used to move and mix paint on the palette. Others have used the other end of the brush stick to incise, or their fingers.</p>

<p>Marie Bashkirtseff’s painting of a class in the Académie Julien in Paris in 1881 demonstrates how oil painting should be done by the textbook. The artist, shown in her self-portrait in the centre foreground, is using a long-bladed palette knife to prepare the paint on her palette. At her feet, on an old sheet of newspaper, are her brushes, all with handles of typical length, and the pupil behind her is using a maul stick to rest her right hand while painting with her brush.</p>

The outlook today. It’s thundery. I saw a little mouse or mole looking for cover when it saw my approach. Alas, I was not quick enough to get a pic.

Again, it’s much later in the pic than it is to my eyes. Everything’s dark. Except for a small light over by Alliston and a barn light on the next line. It’s raining. It was thundering a minute ago.

Again, it’s too dark for me to see much. To my eyes I can’t see the pastures and hills and trees and shrubs. The sky looks fairly dark. The stars are pretty bright, but the sky is lightening near the horizon. I see the lights in Alliston over the hill had a barn light at the next line. But I can hear farmers working through the night to #combine their crops.

The camera brightened up the picture quite a bit. It’s too dark to my eyes to see anything except a few stars in the sky, the lights over the horizon of Alliston , and a yard light and barn light on the next line.

Brown leaves are silhouetted on the left side of the picture. In the mid ground, the cornfield is ripening still. The hills beyond are still green for the most part but colouring up with autumn. And the sun is just up bright and sort of red. It looks bigger to my eyes than it does to the camera.

Except for a few streaky clouds on the horizon, the sky is clear and getting bluer. The sun will be up in a while, so the clouds on the horizon are pink and orangey. In the background, the trees on the hills look dark, the pastures this side of them have a bit of dew or ground fog where the horses are grazing. The cornfield in the mid ground is getting yellow, and the leaves are dying as the crop matures. In the foreground, I see shrubs all getting brighter as the sun comes up.

On the left side and right and in front of me in the photo are leaves turning colour with autumn. The sky is blue. The cornfield in the middle distance is starting to go golden as the leaves die off. I get #robins gathering here for several days or weeks in the autumn before they move on, and I can hear them overhead.

To my eyes, it’s quite dark. But the photo came up a bit brighter in the photo. It shows a deep blue sky with stars in it., It shows orange at the horizon above the hills, which appear totally black. You can see the lights of Alliston in a dip in the hills. It’s too early for the birds, it might be too early for me.
