Night photography in the historical center of Paraty (RJ, Brazil). With high tide the sea water floods the streets and reflects the colorful colonial style buildings.
The name "Paraty" means "river of fish" in the Tupi language, spoken by the native Guaianás Indians which populated the region. The Portuguese who colonized the region took over the name for their town.
Paraty is located on the Costa Verde (Green Coast), a stripe of Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) that runs along the coast line south of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The historic center of Paraty and several areas of the atlantic rainforest were inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.
