#Umicore en arbeiderswijk Moretusburg in #Hoboken waren een eeuw onlosmakelijk verbonden. Daar maakte de loodvergiftiging een abrupt einde aan. Om een groene bufferzone te creëren, moesten aan de wijk verknochte en pas neergestreken inwoners noodgedwongen verhuizen.

During the 19th century building of the so called #Brialmont #fortifications around the city of #Antwerp began. Technology evolved rapidly, however, and by the time they were ready they were already outdated. Built entirely of bricks they only had a limited adequacy during the Great War. Still, because of them, it took longer than anticipated for the Germans to occupy Antwerp.

Fort 8 is the best preserved and is accessible.

A circle with a solid brick wall to the left which arches to arching niches to the right (4 of them can be seen.) Every niche has a small window. Everything built out of red bricks, even the floor. The bricks on the floor are worn (but generally in good condition,) everything else is well preserved.

😂 So we went out to dinner in Hoboken at a cliquey Italian restaurant and the table behind us was three Hoboken Girls in their 20s having a bitchfest. The dialogue was amazing! "She doesn't like Tiffany. She doesn't like Bethany. She CERTAINLY doesn't like Arianna. She doesn't know the host. She's NOT EVEN FROM HOBOKEN so WTF? WHY IS SHE EVEN THERE?" 😂
