@ernie, hate to cold @ you, but, are you following this #sengLED smart light bulb fiasco? No one seems to be writing about it. Not the tech publications that promote sengled... no one. It's been days and people can't get their lightbulbs to work, esp if they were dimmed at night when they stopped working.
After a bunch of complaints to their main seller, #Amazon, Amazon finally released a statement to people that have them linked to one of their appliances. I suspect Amazon just wants to stop fielding calls about them, although they are still selling products that can't work now or be setup. #GoogleHome #iot #Alexa #homeAutomation #google #home

„Matter is the worst protocol... and honestly, they should give up.“ Ist dem wirklich so? Zugegeben, ich hätte mir auch vorgestellt und gewünscht, dass Matter inzwischen weiter verbreitet ist. Aber dennoch läuft es bislang gut, dort wo es eben verfügbar ist. Wie sieht es bei euch aus? Ist Matter noch immer ein Hoffnungsschimmer oder habt ihr das Vertrauen verloren? 🤔 #SmartHome #IoT #HomeAutomation #TechTrends
Apple will simply never get #SmartHome or #HomeAutomation right. It is so abundantly obvious that none of the engineers working on this *actually use it*.
The only way Apple figures out how to do this is if they build the entire house.
And they couldn't build a car, y'all.
Extremely annoyed with #HomeAssistant Yellow (due to Raspberry Pi CM4) allegedly being very picky with which NVMes it supports - combined with the fact that NVMe is the only way to expand the storage space on it.
I have zero problem shelling out less than 1k NOK on an NVMe drive, but there're only a handful of very old hard to find devices I can verify are actually working.
Meanwhile I currently can't update my HA due to it running out of space. 😭
I wrote another thing about home automation and alarms and stuff.
This time I talk about planning a basic level of hardwired security into my apartment, and what prep work has been necessary.

Just a TIL - if you buy a #aeotec #smartthings hub, and it was manufactured before April 2024, there's a good chance it won't work, as the SSL cert in factory images before that expired in March 2025. You will likely get an error 33-504.
Once the firmware is updated, they're fine, but getting it to update is a challenge.
Workaround is to block NTP on your firewall, so the hub doesn't know what time it is upon reset, and it'll then happily work and update.
I just got a second hub from Amazon UK and it was manufactured in 2021, so it took a bit of digging to get the thing working.

@Mumonkan I know the trade war has left them unable to pay 1000 Chinese employees there and there is a big protest about it.
" Employees at Sengled Optoelectronics say the company has failed to pay their wages for three consecutive months, which prompted protesters to march to the local town hall to demand a resolution on April 29.
A Sengled employee confirmed the protest in a telephone interview with The Epoch Times on April 30. “Over a thousand of us went to the town hall to protest,” the worker said. “Employees’ wages haven’t been paid for half a year.”
“Over a dozen people were arrested,” he said. "The company owes wages to over 1,000 full-time workers. We are all entitled to full benefits—pensions, retirement funds, unemployment insurance. The amount they owe is huge, but they haven’t given us any explanation."
The worker said that the factory owner owes the government a great deal of money and the “factory should’ve shut down long ago.”
Supposedly there are youtube videos about it, too.

Anyone else having issues with Sengled lightbulbs. They seem to be having server issues for the last 20 or so hours and we're having to turn the lights on and off like it was 2015 again.
Even logging into the app fails.

Mmh… where should I connect an ESP8266 to my doorbell to recognize someone being at the door, the speaker or the blinking LED? 🤔
I really need that for HomeAssistant to relay the signal to my computer, I can't hear the damn doorbell with headphones on 75% of the time. 🥴 Can't modify the doorbell itself though (belongs to the landlord), so I have to use clamps and a *very* flat cable to get the signal out of that box.

In the immortal words of Hannibal Smith - "I love it when a plan comes together".
As the sun is finally creeping through the clouds, I just remembered I'd turned off the automatic EV charging routine on Home Assistant yesterday as the weather was too overcast and it was struggling to keep the car and house battery topped up and I'd rather keep the house full given a choice.
Home Assistant automatically resets those automations at sundown ready for the next day in case I forget. Well dear reader, I forgot, but Home Assistant didn't, and has been charging Eddie (our EV) for about the last hour with no input from the forgetful meat entity.
Someone on my team has made a nifty jukebox-based UI for Sonos, and it looks awesome!

#homeAutomation folks! I have a gas fired Ooni pizza oven which often blows out because it's windy here in Scotland. Other half is wanting a temperature sensor that we can poke inside the oven that can handle temps upwards of 500C to make sure that the flame is still burning. Ideally, it would connect somehow to @homeassistant which could notify us both even when we're not standing right in front of it.
Any suggestions for a sensor that can deal with those high temps?
