A long shot, I'm sure, but I'm trying to repair my #kettle lid and hoped someone here could help

It's a #RussellHobbs 20460 and the spring which makes the lid pop open has fallen out. I have the spring but cannot figure out where it goes.

A web search shows other people asking the same question, but no useful answers.

If someone has one of these kettles, would they kindly post a photo or explanation of where the spring goes, please.

I can remove the lid but that didn't shed any light.

#Boosts appreciated.

After being sidelined by maple season and other things, I finally finished the last bit of oak floor restoration in our house. Whatever was on the stairs was horrendous to sand off. I sanded and refinished the round rails and built a new banister from our own oak, rough milled with a chainsaw to this. Just trim left to do now. It's not perfect, but way better than the carpet that covered it all.

I was sweating like a pig this afternoon trying to drill a 3" hole through my brick wall in 90°F weather. About an hour in I thought, "what am I doing? It's going to be 70s later this week"

Our clothes washer spin doesn't pull enough water from the clothes. It does work if I close the valves that let water in. My conclusion was that one of the inlet valves was leaking. I ordered new valves and it only took ten minutes to replace them with simple tools.

The machine is about 20 years old and otherwise works well.

The cost of the valves was ridiculous. $200 for parts that likely cost only a few dollars each. And, I don't know yet if this was the fix.

When you own a century home, the quantum of home repair is four hours. That is to say, any DIY home repair job, no matter how trivial it seems before you start, will take a minimum of four hours to complete.

This is based on the Century Home Uncertainty Principal (CHUP) which states that there is no way to know what disaster you will find whenever you open or screw into any surface.

Big shout-out to Xyla Foxlin on #Youtube for demystifying fiberglass for me. I'm repairing rusted out holes in the bulkhead door to the basement, and it was way closer to the tool for the job than the lumpy expanding foam that was there before.

How often does the check number equal the check amount??

(Yes, check - the electrician charges a fee for credit cards)

I mean I'm already a winner for having hot water and light back in that bathroom but everyone (including the electrician) is telling me to play the lottery.

So, I have managed to lock myself out of my own oven. It has been having trouble with temperature, occasionally overheating, so last night I decided to take out the temperature probe and test it to see if it is obviously the problem. It measured 1080 Ω, exactly what is expected at room temperature, so it is not likely the problem. While it was out, the oven fan came on, presumably because the open circuit made the oven think it was overheating. Unfortunately, in trying to shut off the fan, I managed to lock the oven door. Now it won't unlock, presumably because the temperature sensor is missing and its little electronic brain thinks it is too hot to open. So now it is just locked shut.

After I replaced the tee fitting connected to the downspout and sump outlet the other month I thought I learned my lesson in making multiple trips to hardware stores by buying multiple parts and returning them later.

But Today I learned that even if I plan ahead it really does help if I buy the correct part too.

A week and a half ago I bought a couple of outdoor faucet fixtures. It rained last week so I am getting to it now on a beautiful Spring day, not a cloud in the sky. But of course the anti-siphon fixtures are meant to include the entire sillcock unlike the faucet fixtures.

So back to the hardware store to return both, buy groceries, go back home, take measurements on the inside, go to a different store (big box one unfortunately), and got to work.

A bit of wrenching later and cursing the new part for having smaller openings in its face plate. No leaks inside and outside! 💪

I'm a plumber now, I guess. Ewww. And I learned what a basin wrench is for.

In order to repair the fence, I had to clear out the slide and build a retaining wall. Wall's done, time for the fence. All three fences in our backyard crapped out at more or less the same time, and with the Santa Anas getting stronger, it was only a matter of time before one would have collapsed. Back side replaced a year ago. South side's studs were failing, so replaced them. North side was replaced 3-4 years ago but SCE broke a section replacing a utility pole in December. Wooooo
