Unless one has deep enough pockets for proprietary #AntisocialMedia tools like #HootSuite, #API access - espechally on #Shitter & #NSAbook / #StasiBook - is way too expensive!

Today’s reflection begins with the Hootsuite Social Media Trends 2025 report—an unexpected prompt to consider the future of digital connection.
From the Marketplace to the Living Room
Social media experts tell us that to win, you must move fast. Agility, they say, is the secret—jump on trends, experiment boldly, keep pace with the ever-accelerating scroll. Perhaps they are right. For businesses measuring clicks and conversions, speed is essential. But for those of us seeking community, story, and presence, I wonder if a different rhythm is calling.
In the early years, social media felt like a village square. We wandered through conversations, stumbled upon friends, and delighted in small exchanges of photographs and words. Over time, the village square turned into a marketplace—noisy, crowded, relentless. Attention became the only currency, and many of us left feeling impoverished rather than enriched.
Now, I sense a shift. We are beginning to choose our circles with greater care. Some are moving into quieter spaces—book clubs, reading rooms, private chats—that feel more like living rooms than coliseums. We are not rejecting technology, but rather reclaiming it.
The Hootsuite report is correct: the future will demand agility. But not only the agility to keep up with fleeting trends. We will also need the agility to step aside, to pause, to craft spaces where depth is valued over speed.
In five to ten years, I believe the noise will give way to something new. Social media will not disappear. It will become a road, not a destination. The true destinations will be the sanctuaries we build along the way: circles of trust, places of creativity, communities of care.
I believe that connections will endure. The next chapter may not be faster—it may be wiser. We live in exciting times that demand our highest participation. As Mary Catherine Batesman reminds us, “We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn.”
Reading Hootsuite’s report reminded me that speed and agility are prized in today’s digital culture, but they are not the only ways to “win.” For me, the true measure of success is not keeping up with every trend but finding a rhythm that sustains creativity. That rhythm—quiet, steady, and true—is where the real connection begins.

I still find it weird that #Hootsuite doesn't appear to (I'm not a current user) and neither does #SproutSocial - What I find weird is that #marketers know the value of #ownedmedia and the challenges of #disintermediation that the big social networks cause for them - but there doesn't really appear to be a good guide to managing #brands on #Activitypub - Ditto for #Government agencies
- I had to block some asshole because they refused to acknowledge their shitty bridging destroyed threading and doubled-down on that garbage!
I mean. #Pidgin, #Gajim, #HootSuite and #NUVI don't demand me to setup yet another account to have working multi-protocol support. (Okay, the latter two do but that's to access their interface as they are #SaaS-only #WebApps !)
I mean, there are commercial #MultiPlatform #clients for #SocialMedia like #HootSuite and #NUVI [not that I'd like either of those but still...

@BrodieOnLinux @qdot I find it weird to see #FLOSS #devs use an #InformationBlackhole like #discord which combines all the disadvantages of #MailingList, #IRC, #XMPP, #Matrix and even #MicrosoftTeams and #Signal without any redeeming qualities of any of those, like a functioning search & logging.
- Like the #LKML is kinda shit in terms of UX but at least there are searchable indexes for it so one can just point at a specific message & comment wthout having to be granted access to it.
Not to mention that discord is #ableist af by literally preventing the use of #Screenreader-friendly browsers such as #Lynx and #dillo to work, blocking @torproject / #Tor users and explicitly banning the use of it's #API to build better clients.
- Not even a #paid-for exception is offered, thus making integration into even paid-for tools like #HootSuite not legally possible!

- That's quite easy if the devs were to implement it!
I wounder if @ivory or @openvibe does that.

I wrote into #Hootsuite #Support asking for the images to deleted.
Their response is that my email is not tied to an (in)active account. No kidding? Maybe because I *deleted* it years ago?!
So now I have to figure out how to prove that I "own" these images.
So I deleted my #Hootsuite account years ago, but for some reason the photos I uploaded for cross-posting are still accessible through the owlly shortener/image storage site.
If you were ever a #Hootsuite user, I recommend double checking that all your stuff got deleted.
