Had a fantastic time at the barn over the Canada Day weekend watching a calf sorting clinic, helping out with the fun show, and then doing a roping clinic! Covered the basics and a little bit of horse desensitization too. Took a couple hours with a bit of frustration to finally get decent enough with swinging a large breakaway loop around and hitting my target, but it was a ton of fun and I'm absolutely in the mood to play some Red Dead Redemption 2 now. #equestrian #western #horsemanship

Equitana 2023 (11/52/2023):
Looking back to last week I did only clean up work in #WikiTree and did not have much time on #Genealogy. On Saturday I visited the #Equitana https://www.equitana.com/essen/en-gb.html the world fair of equestrian sports in Essen and spend a full day of impressions on #horse and #horsemanship. Wishing for the longer days of summertime to have more time in real world with my horse.

It was too bitterly cold for my #dressage lesson today. So, instead, I'm thinking about riding and training #horses. 😂

I've been working to fully absorb the #horsemanship teachings of Tristan Tucker's TRT Method.

His goal is to help a horses take responsibility for self-management, to find comfort and make good decisions -- even when humans aren't present.

So, for example, you see the disengagement of hindquarters in a ton of disciplines from trainers with excellent skills. But Tristan's concept of why and how to do it is totally different.

Instead of asking a #horse to yield "Because I said so" or to become less dangerous, he acknowledges the brace (against the ground, the trainer, questions the horse doesn't know the answers to, the mounting block that moved 3", etc.) and gives them good advice on how to find mental comfort and move into physical stability by placing their power - literally - underneath themselves.

That's a pretty empowering philosophy.
