For #WorldOceanDay I thought I would share a print with both a vertebrate and invertebrate ocean species. This linocut and gel plate print shows the humpback whale swimming above and a close up of the whale below with six Coronula diadema barnacles.

The Coronula diadema name comes from its barrel and crown-like shape, which can grow to 5 cm (2”) tall and 6 cm (2.4”) in diameter. 🧵

My square 8” x 8” print on white washi paper. The upper two thirds are printed as a deep blue-green rectangle with missing unprinted white silhouette of a humpback whale now filled with a linocut print of the humpback in dark blue-grey. The tip of its mouth and tail extend into the white margin space. The bottom third is a grey rectangle with the missing silhouettes of 6 barnacles unprinted in white now filled with linocut C. diadema barnacles with silver striations and orange centres with opercular valves.

My first #TilingTuesday ... A pattern made of the outlines of Humpback Whales jumping. A bit naïve, but you know, haters gonna hate. #whale #HumpbackWhale #GraphicDesign #pattern #tiling #tile #PatternDesign #blackandwhite

A series of triangular tiles, set inside a larger triangle. The tiles are composed on black shapes on a white background that look like outward pointing arrows but on close inspection reveal to be the silhouettes of humpback whales taken mid-jump.

It was very exciting to see a humpback whale breach right off the side of our boat. I missed the first breach, or it was actually too close, but he went out and breached again. belinda-greb.pixels.com/featur #humpbackwhale #Kauai

Out here in #Antarctica, it's clear: marine life can’t keep up with industrial trawlers sucking the life out of the ocean.

As we track and expose these krill supertrawlers, we’re surrounded by whales, penguins, seals - feeding❗just meters away❗from huge factory vessels dragging their massive nets and stealing their food.

⚠️ In case you missed it, the Chilean krill supertrawler Antarctic Endeavor trapped and killed a #humpbackwhale just a few weeks ago. And it’s still here, dragging its nets through fragile waters. 👉 Find out more via the link in our bio.

The industry is relentless. But so are we!

Join the fight. Let's #StopThePlunder together!

Heartbreaking #news from #Antarctica: A #humpbackwhale has been killed by a krill supertrawler, adding to the growing toll on our oceans. This is just the latest tragedy in the ongoing krill warzone, where one of the planet's most vital ecosystems is under siege.

The Antarctic Endeavor, the vessel responsible, even displays the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) logo - an organization that certifies fisheries as sustainable - despite the destruction they cause.

Ocean Procession - a humpback whale and various other creatures!

~2017

A painting of a humpback whale swimming to the left, surrounded by various sea animals- a sea turtle, a shark, a swordfish, manta rays, dolphins, moray eel, and other schooling fish. The whale casts a large shadow on the sea floor, over sand and corals. Under the water is mainly blue-green with hints of pink and purple, and above the water the inverse.

Some whale #linocut prints for #WorldWhaleDay! I’ve had the great privilege of seeing humpbacks and orcas (and other species) when working at sea. They seem as curious about us as we are of them.

I would love to see the blue whale and narwhals, in my other prints, too.

I hope we always live in a world where whales can thrive.
