Title: Louisa, projected onto an #iceberg.

Part of the Photography4Humanity exhibit presented by the United Nations office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, on location in New York and in Oxford UK. www.un.org/en/exhibits/exhibit/photography4humanity-2024

Description: “#Polar #SeaIce is steadily thinning and vanishing. Louisa recalls the days when she would return to her family by dogsled each Christmas. Now, the community considers itself fortunate if the ice holds for just two or three months a year, and dogsleds have become a rare sight.”

Location: Uummannaq, Greenland

Ice in the Ocean in Diamond Beach, Iceland

Diamond Beach, or Jökulsárlón Beach, is a stunning natural wonder located near the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland. This unique beach gets its name from the sparkling ice chunks that wash ashore from the lagoon, resembling diamonds scattered across the black volcanic sand. The contrast of the crystalline ice against the dark sand creates a breathtaking visual spectacle.
The icebergs that make their way to Diamond Beach are remnants of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, which calves into the lagoon, producing large chunks of ice that float before eventually drifting out to sea. Some of these icebergs are small, while others can be quite large, and they often take on fascinating shapes as they erode over time in the ocean.
The beach is especially enchanting during sunrise and sunset when the light casts a warm glow on the ice and sand. Wildlife enthusiasts might also spot seals swimming in the nearby lagoon or seabirds soaring above.

A doggo who looks like ice ... no, hang on... a piece of an iceberg, stranded on the shore that looked like the head of a doggo.

“To the Sea”

Our first “large” #iceberg, officially classified as bergs up to 75m tall & 213m long (much larger than our 100 passenger vessel) A real welcome to the #Antarctic peninsula Typically, 90% of the volume of an iceberg is below the surface. An incredible concept to ponder

Close encounter with jade iceberg

Scientists think this unusual jade iceberg could get its colouring from concentrations of iron. (Australian Antarctic Division: Pete Harmsen)

❄️Between the last glacial maximum & today, humans were exposed to severely rising sea levels 🌊 & recurrent phases of strong abrupt cooling events.🥶 #MPIM researchers have uncovered the origin of these strong temperature fluctuations over the past 20,000 years using a novel coupled climate-ice sheet model. They found that #iceberg armadas 🧊🧊🧊 & changed river courses were responsible for #AMOC weakening & abrupt cooling.
