Our new bibliometric study reveals how a tiny typographic error, confusing the German Eszett (ß) with the Greek beta (β), has created hundreds of false positives like ß-catenin and ß-glucuronidase in major databases:

This morning's task has been to complete stage 2 of indexing a book chapter. Just 16 pages of print proofs, but my index currently has 100 lines, with multiple page refs for same terms already combined. Most of chapter is a transcript of a 1682 historical poem about events at Melrose, Scotland. Densely packed with refs to people and places, events and things. So needs pretty hefty indexing! But was fun. I am a trained and qualified book indexer as well as academic historian. #indexing #History
