The recent internet disruptions in Bangladesh have now ended, and just an hour ago, the advisor of the interim government took the oath of office. I've shut down all public proxy servers I was running since regular VPNs like ProtonVPN are functioning fine now. I'll also be shutting down my Akkoma instance at social.mitexleo.one, as I've transitioned to using Mastodon.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to work full-time, part-time, or take on any freelance jobs due to my college exams and the need to prepare for university admissions. This means I'll have to minimize my living expenses, and I won't have any income for at least the next 4-5 months. However, I'll continue to run our public Fediverse instance, buddyverse.one, for as long as possible.
My personal instance also needs an upgrade, as I'm getting a lot of interaction from you all—boosts, likes, and replies! Both my Akkoma and Mastodon instances see CPU and RAM usage spike to 100% when this happens since I'm running on a $5 Linode plan. The current cost for running my Mastodon instance is $10/month (Nanode + Linode Object Storage), and for Buddyverse.one, it's just $5/month. This is a significant reduction from the more than $100/month I used to spend!
I plan to operate a proxy and VPN server again soon. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me financially and inspired me to fight against censorship in Bangladesh during these challenging times. I'll be forever grateful to you all. 💛
I also plan to work for the poor, minorities, and those who need our help in the future. The Fediverse has truly transformed my life—I’ve never had so much meaningful discussion or interaction, even offline, let alone on Facebook or Twitter. I know I act dumb sometimes, and I ask for your forgiveness for that. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I ever do something wrong or hurt you in any way. I'm open to change.
