Growing up, my always went with the in the world, and it trickled onto me. We lived in . We didn't have a , we had a . We didn't have an processor, we had Cyrix. We didn't use or , we used SyQuest. We didn't run , we used . We didn't go with , we went with . That spirit of was awesome to grow up with, I saw so much cool obscure shit that others people never saw.

I'll probably never own a drive to read those, but these are some very impressive floppy disk cartridges. Also, 20 megs in 1984 - that's more than a typical hard disk had at that time. 😲

Got 2 of these working on my #Commodore #Amiga 1200 today, a parallel version of the #iOmega Zip drive and a SCSI one of the Zip drive Plus. 100MB per disk, in a time where the HDD was 120MB, seemed excessive.

Have a SCSI 2GB Jaz drive still to test but I don't have the fitting SCSI cable yet. Side note: all the different existent SCSI standards are a special, and expensive, kind of hell. #Retrocomputing #retro

Good news everyone! I wrote up my notes about the Iomega Zip drive proprietary SCSI commands and mode pages!
These work for parallel-port drives too, as they're a SCSI drive and a parallel adapter in a trenchcoat.

So after purchasing brand new blank media for my Iomega 250mb ZIP drive, was time to give this disk format tech from 1999 a go on Windows 98!

It's super quiet on file transfers and with my internal drive connected via IDE cable could easily fill a disk within a few minutes.

Impressive stuff!

My retro Windows 98 computer is complete.

Finished off with an Iomega 250mb zip drive.

AMD Athlon 2000+
512MB RAM
128GB IDE to Micro SD
2x Voodoo 12mb SLI graphics cards
Matrox Mystique 220 (2D/3D)
SoundBlaster Live! Platinum 5.1
Yamaha SW1000XG

It's been a really fun build!

Beige is beautiful!

Iomega home media drive —

Yesterdays cutting edge portable media is today's social media humor post. Issues in 1998-1999 the Iomega clik! drive was a 40mb external storage option. The card was about $250 ($473 today) and the media was $10 each or $ 0.25 per MB. My OWC 2TB CF Express card was $700 or 0.00035 per MB #clik! #iomega #zipdrive #storage #computer #electronics #history

@alterelefant @apicultor @Heidi OFC...

The only competiton so far besides #LTO and #IBM3592 is #ODA or #OpticalDiscArchive which is basically a fancy cartridge system containing 12 #bluray discs each...

  • Needless to say the need for #fast and #portable storage will make the use of #SSD|s (even if just simple NOR-Flash ROMs) sooner or later unavoidable given #BDXL has been maxed out at 128 GB, HDDs are too sensitive for many scenarios (we had #iomega #Jaz & #Rev already, and #RDX exists to this day) unavoidable, as data requirements rise faster than the average internet speed.

Saturday chores and I scored this #Iomega #ZipDrive at the recycling yard.🥳
I looked for the power supply, but it was nowhere to be found.🤷‍♂️
Going to try and find a compatible one.

… I have seen things you wouldn’t believe …

… ribbon cables for hard drives… Master/Slave #SCSI termination… (mind screams in rebellion)… the little switch boxes to hook your original #Nintendo console or #VIC20 to a TV and then get headaches from staring at the TV CRT too closely…. a VIC-20 cassette drive with a box of about 150+ unlabeled tapes… painstakingly typed in from the listings in #BYTE magazines… Taking low-density 3.5″ floppies, and drilling/punching a hole through to double your storage and make them “high-density”…. the squeal of a modem (and trying to get the #IRQ conflicts resolved via changing jumper switches)… attempting to connect to #Datapac to try and reach unknown systems, running a #BBS inside a #DOS box, on #386(SX) #Windows 3.0 machine, Setting up your own #UUCP #internet over #dialup

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain…

The clicking of an #IOMEGA #ZIP drive, whose time it was to die…

Y tu ¿Aun conservas algunos discos Zip p productos Iomega?
