So... they're cats?

#Octopus #Cats #JacquesCousteau

The unusual abilities of the Mediterranean octopus, however, have not always been sufficient to save them, for the Mediterranean fishermen have a few tricks of their own. In order to catch octopuses, they make use of a method which goes back to the Greeks and the Romans—who, in turn, borrowed it from the Egyptians. They let down into the water a group of jugs, about ten of them fixed to a frame. The frame sinks to the bottom. The octopuses, with the affection that they have for jars and containers of any description, quickly take up residence in the jugs. It sometimes happens that, when the fishermen pull the frame up to the surface, they find an octopus in every one of the jugs.

I spend a truly large amount of my free time lately watching #JacquesCousteau films and episodes of his television series. There's just something wonderfully soothing about them, at least in the ones after they stopped just killing sea creatures on camera.

It was all I could think about when I was floating in the #atlanticocean for the first time in a couple years last Wednesday.

With OceanGate Titan/Titanic self-indulgent tourism #FAFO fiasco & a new #WesAnderson movie reminding me of #TheLifeAquatic with #SteveZissou I'm remembering a childhood idol:

Jacques-Yves Cousteau (b. 6/11/1910 — d. 6/25/1997) or #JacquesCousteau - invented #SCUBA & the #DivingSaucer to better explore and understand the sea, it's life, and systems to benefit of all life on Earth.
