Video call with The Boy tonight. He is 4 and started school last month. After he grilled me with 30 questions about my operation this week and how I’m feeling and if I’m better and if I had a plaster, I was finally able to ask him “How was school today?”

“School was AMAZING today grandma.”
“Oh! Well that’s very good to hear. I’m glad you had such a good day.”
“I did! I learned FOUR new phonemes!”

I’ve had to Google #phoneme tonight. Made to feel stupid by a four year old.

My #grandson, who turned 4 just three weeks ago, has just said to me as I put him to bed “Remember to have a drink, grandma. It’s very important to hydrate.”

He’s been going to #gymnastics since he was 16 months old, which means at almost 4 years old now The Boy can handle a beam over a stream like an absolute boss.

Quand ça ne marche pas, on cherche naturellement un coupable.
Le management, la gestion de projet, les choix artistiques ou produit disparaissent…

Et les développeurs font, par défaut, des coupables tout trouvés 👀

PS : juste une petite réflexion ici, pas d’apprentissage ou de conclusion sur la gestion de l’IT en start-up… Mais un gros big up aux développeurs qui font souvent un travail ingrat et invisible.

Au début de sa carrière, le Joueur du Grenier était spécialisé dans les punchlines envers les développeurs.
Quand on voit certains jeux testés, on le comprend.

Mais quelques années plus tard, il a pu côtoyer des développeurs…
Et comprendre que les problèmes sont souvent ailleurs.

→ Un bug ? Les devs abusent.
→ Le jeu est moche ? Les devs sont nuls.
→ La sortie est en retard ? C’est la faute des devs.

I pass this sculpture on the way to and from work each day. The Boy (who is 3yo) passes it once a week en route to gymnastics.

This week he was in gymnastics camp two afternoons and when his mum was bringing him home on one of the days he said “Look mummy. It’s a #Spitfire.”

His mummy was very surprised. I was very proud.
I am teaching The Boy the important things and I’m absolutely delighted to discover he’s retaining them.

(During that same journey he told mummy off for skipping a song that he wanted to sing, so she replayed it. He sang along at full volume. It was From Now On, from The Greatest Showman. He knows all the words from when it picks up in the middle. Maybe not quite in the same class as recognising a Spitfire, but I’m insanely happy to see my influence having an impact. 😊)
