I love Sam Neill, but I remember even as a kid obsessed with Jurassic Park I realized there was something weird about how he talked that made sense later in life when I realized he was a New Zealander whose American accent at that point was never very convincing or steady. I don't know why they didn't just let him speak in his own accent, there's no real reason that character had to be an American.
