A v-shaped weir on the River Kelvin in Glasgow. This was part of the Kelvindale Paper mill, which operated between the mid-1700s and the 1970s. Just visible further upstream are the piers of an abandoned railway bridge and the 1790s Kelvin Aqueduct which carries the Forth and Clyde Canal across the Kelvin Valley.

A section of abandoned railway bridge running alongside the River Kelvin at Kelvindale in Glasgow. This was part of the line which ran between Anniesland, Maryhill and Glasgow City Centre via the Botanic Gardens, Kelvinbridge and under Kelvingrove Park.

Kelvinside House on Beaconsfield Road in the west of Glasgow. Built in 1874, with additional by James Thomson in 1894, it was originally known as Beaconsfield. It was built for James B. Fleming, who was instrumental in developing the local area in the latter half of the Victorian era. I particularly like the little attic dormer window tucked in between two chimney stacks on the left hand side of the facade.

Pre-1900 polychromatic brick buildings on Kelvindale Road in Glasgow. These were built for the nearby Kelvindale Paper Mill. The larger ones in the foreground were for managers, while the terraced cottages in the background were for ordinary workers.

A pre-1900 polychromatic brick house on Kelvindale Road in Glasgow. It was probably built for a more senior staff member at the nearby (and long-gone) Kelvindale Paper Mill.

Old coach houses, with servants quarters above them, behind the 1880s townhouses on Cleveden Road in Glasgow. The two parallel tracks are stoneways made from granite slabs designed to allow coach wheels to travel more smoothly along the otherwise cobbled lane.

Stoneleigh on Cleveden Drive in Glasgow. Designed in an Elizabethan style by Henry Edward Clifford for the Stockbroker Joseph Turner, it was built in 1900. It originally featured Jacobean and Glasgow Style fireplaces, and stained glass by Henry J. Payne and Mary Newill as well as fairy-tale cameos in the style of Edward Burne-Jones.

Craigmount on Cleveden Road in the Kelvindale area of Glasgow. Constructed in the 1880s, it was designed by John Gordon in a Dutch Renaissance style. It was built for Gibson Smith of the George Smith and Co. Foundry. Also known as the Sun Foundry, this was one of the great Glasgow architectural and decorative ironwork foundries and they rivalled the better known Saracen Foundry for the quality of their work.

Sunrise over the River Kelvin. I love the way different periods of Glasgow's history are often layered on top of each other. In the foreground are the piers of a late 19th Century railway bridge. Further down stream is the distinctive V-shaped weir of the old Kelvindale Papermill, which was founded in the 18th Century. Standing above this is one of the 1960s Wyndford Tower blocks.

I posted a couple of these little art works a couple of days ago, and now I've tracked down a couple more, as well as their origin.

They are part of a sound walk through Partick and Kelvindale created by Tricky Hat Productions in August 2021 called Round Our Place. You can find out more about it here (including a map of the entire walk and the locations of all eight plaques): trickyhat.com/portfolios/creat

Saint John's Renfield Church in the Kelvindale area of Glasgow. Designed on a modern Gothic style by James Taylor Thomson and built in 1929, this church sits on a hill above Great Western Road and is always impressive to look up at come rain or shine.

Kelvindale old and new.

I'm guessing the polychromatic buildings in the foreground were built pre-1900, and most probably around the 1870s, given their style and construction materials. In the background are the 1960s Wyndford high rises.
