The leaves might be turning, the temperatures dropping and the nights fair drawing in, but here in Glasgow you can still get a ice cream from the van in the park, and it shouldn't be any other way!

The Italianate townhouses of Park Gardens in the West End of Glasgow. Designed by Charles Wilson and built in the 1850s, they were part of the upmarket Park District, created as the city grew and expanded westward throughout the 19th Century.

There is still a Houldsworth Street and Houldsworth Park, just about visible from the upper windows of this townhouse, in Anderston to this day, but it's unclear in they're named after John, or his father Henry, who was appointed the first Provost of Anderston when it was awarded burgh status in 1824.

A French Renaissance style early Victorian townhouse on Park Terrace in the West End of Glasgow. Designed by Charles Wilson, it was buit in 1855 as Glasgow expanded westward. It was originally occupied by John Houldsworth, a merchant and cotton-spinner. Houldsworth was also the last Provost of the burgh of Anderston before it was absorbed into Glasgow in 1846.

It features Ellen Douglas (in the middle), the minstrel Allan-Bane (on the left) and Ellen's spaniel, Lufra, (on the right), with Ellen's Isle in Loch Katrine, the spurce of Glasgow's drinking water, on the background.

This unusual-looking building in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow was originally childrens toilets. Built in 1913, it was abandoned in the 1980s and fell into disrepair. It was saved in the early 2000s when it was converted into a cafe. The name of the cafe, An Clachan, comes from the model highland village set up as part of the Scottish National Exhibition held in the park in 1911.

Looking back at some old photos, I came across this one from last yeat, which I think was taken in Kelvingrove Park. It seems to mark the creation of the Scottish humanitarian relief organisation Spirit Aid by the Glaswegian filmmaker David Hayman in 2002. The line second like is Gaelic and translates as Peace on Earth. Over the weekend, I went back to where I thought it was, but I couldn't find it. However, I'm sure it's in the park somewhere!

Part of the current archaeological excavations of the Kelvin Wheelies Skate Park in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. Opened in 1978, this was Scotland's first skate park. The excavations have revealed that there's a surprsing amount of it left just below the surface. I think this was the side-by-side slalom run.
