I forgot to post the pics of the actual "work" I managed to get done on Wednesday afternoon at the allotment (I was so excited about meeting the fox!) 😁 I had meant to plant the garlic I had brought in the autumn, but fortunately it was only just beginning to shoot 👍 #allotment #gardening #kent #eng

Firstly I scraped back the remaining bark chips my friend had used for mulching the potatoes he planted last year (not the best of ideas, I reckon, but he did get a worthwhile crop). The only green showing (I was surprised there weren't more weeds) are three-cornered leeks which I took home to use in a salad 😋

How it looked after the bark-chippings had gone. I only lightly ticked over the surface with a hand fork.

I had forgotten to check to see how closely spaced they should be (In hindsight, I should have just googled it 🙄) but I went for about 6 inches apart, which felt right for the bed. I count 32 placed in their positions, ready for planting with their noses at soil level (I also should have checked this 🙂). Once planted, I mulched them with around a couple of inches of spent potting compost. I forgot to take a photo of this! 😣😁

This one is local to me. Another one I've liked since first seeing it. The "Bath" part of the name refers to 19th century floating public baths that were moored on the River Medway near this location. The "Hard" part is a historical term for a section of riverbank that was reinforced to allow people, carts, and boats to access the water without sinking into mud. There's a lot of mud on the banks of the Medway.

Seeing everyone's contributions here has led me to think what a great tour could be made from visiting all these places.
