Week 23: Kentmere PAN 200

"Church"

This week features a 900 year old church. Shooting Kentmere PAN 200, on a ZeroImage 2000 pinhole camera, developed in Caffenol-CH. The film dried slightly strangely, bowing in the opposite direction to the majority of films I use, but thankfully didn't have any curl along the roll. Had a lot of problems with light leaks ruining shots on this roll which I can't explain the cause of. Don't think it is the camera, which means it is probably my fault when loading, or handling after exposure leading up to development.

I threw caution to the wind and pushed a roll of #Kentmere200 two stops this weekend. Development time was a guess…started with a base time of 6:30 @ 20°. Read a rule of thumb for adjusting times by two stops (6:30 x 2.25 = 14:38), then adjusted for temp. Ended up with 10:45 @ 24°. Pleased with the results.

#KentmerePan200 in 120 looks pretty nice, in my opinion. I will definitely be getting more of it. The halation is intresting, but not overly present (see the 3rd pic, the sun reflection on the water).

So far I’ve gotten 12 rolls out of the Cinestill c-41 kit. I think the glass bottles are really helping keep the chems fresh.

7 rolls of negatives hanging to dry. 2 120 rolls in color, 2 35mm rolls in color, 3 120 rolls in black and white.

Every year in downtown Salisbury, NC, there’s a festival to celebrate Cheerwine, a soft drink invented there. If you’ve been anywhere in the Southeast US, you’ve seen Cheerwine. It’s tasty, but being sugary I don’t have it very often. I had it that day, and it was good.

Developed 3 rolls of #KentmerePan200 tonight, using replenished #XTOL. My bathroom (where my darkroom/lab is) runs pretty hot - so I took 6:30 at 20C, reduced by 15% for rotation, and adjusted for temperature resulting in 4:15 @ 23.9C. Overall I'm pleased, I'll have to see how the negatives look when I can scan them, hopefully tomorrow.

It was pretty warm today at the lakeside park (where I blew through two rolls of #KentmerePan200 ) so treating ourselves to a pint at a local brewery seemed like the right thing to do.

If I can get to it later this evening, I have 3 rolls I will try developing in XTOL for 6:30 (less 15% in a rotation tank). We’ll see how that goes.

Can’t wait to try this out. It’s overcast today and I still have to do some more research to try to get to a starting place with development times, but it’s exciting there’s a new film on the market. Depending on weather I probably won’t be able to shoot it until next weekend at the earliest.

Into the film fridge they go.
