2009 год. На конференции E3 Стивен Спилберг (да, да — тот самый) вместе с старшим вице-президентом Microsoft Доном Мэттриком (Don Mattrick) презентуют Project Nata. Именно его весь мир узнает как Kinect, сокращение от слов kinetic и connection. Старт продаж был оглушительным, даже в Книгу рекордов Гиннесса попали. Аксессуар для Xbox 360 обещал подарить новый игровой опыт и поэтому многие, не задумываясь, выкладывали за него 149,99 $. С тех пор много воды утекло. Две реинкарнации в виде Kinect for Xbox One и Kinect for Windows в итоге были переведены в статус discontinued. В феврале 2019 года Microsoft представила Azure Kinect уже не как игровой аксессуар, а как продвинутый датчик для разработки приложений всего за 399 $. Спустя четыре года производство было свернуто и корпорация вновь похоронила проект. Но там, где закончилась эта история, пока что есть множество энтузиастов (включая меня), которые по-прежнему используют значительно подешевевшие датчики в своих проектах. В свой очередной поход на барахолку я как раз наткнулся на замечательный экземпляр Kinect Xbox 360, который обошелся мне в смешную сумму 10 €. Я давно хотел пощупать такой девайс, поэтому решил попробовать сделать из него 3D-сканер. Тогда я еще не представлял, насколько этот путь непрост.

So I've just gotten a 2nd hand #xbox360 with #kinect, and I wanted to let my kids experience Kinect Fruit Ninja. Turns out it's not quite possible because Xbox Marketplace has shutdown and there's no physical disc released for the game. Truly "got money also cannot buy". Who would have thought I get to experience another digital obsolescence first hand again!?

The reason we don't have #BigBoxPackaging for #Games anymore is due to #GameConsoles:

With the rise of the #PS2 & #Xbox360, the "#DVD #JewelCase" became the norm and #EconomiesOfScale kicked in.
Also #OnlineStores kicked off and #Retail demanded more efficient #ShelfSpace and was unwilling to accept bigger boxes than for DVDs.

It's the same reason #BluRay, #HDDVD & #HDVMD (LOL!) have almost identical packaging and why we get super cursed packaging like a 24-disc case that is barely triple-wide...

Also packaging games in colours like green [ #Xbox ], blue/white [ #PlayStation ] red [#Nintendo], violet [Xbox 360 #Kinect], black/transparent [#Windows-#PC] made it way easier to distinguish for consumers even from a distance where they can't read the spine and identify the logo.

I know.
But it is unable to track rotations and fails with many motions.

Even at its best it still falls behind even the #kinect, and we knew how that turned out.

If I do anything, it should be proper else I'm wasting time I feel

Furthermore camerabased solutions require very ecellent light conditions and especially much room I recon.
These requirements I cannot fullfil.
And also reflection and recording artifacts are a issue.

TL;DR
The resulting motionfiles would have too many artifacts, false positives and require #cleanup lots. Of. Cleanup.

Camera solutions also lack one very crucial ingredient of proper tracking:
#Depth

With stations, imus and the like you have info of "where" in 3d space each element is positioned.
From a #mathmatical standpoint it is a #nocontest

The only alt using 3 cameras in a circle around thr object to record cresting a cylinder of sorts...
But being limited to a certain space yet again

That limitation is what I dislike the most tbh 🙀

(And IK and FK feet n handbones fail hilariously with cameras too.

I know all the opotions but each step is another pricey test with unknown outcome

Getting things to work in the first place is not the issue.

But each solution has its own demertis...

I could splash 600 on a "be quite this is all you could want" solution ..

Or go with imu s which are 150-350..
