More fun with pixel editing: what if Sierra had kept Dracula's dining room in King's Quest 2 puke green like on the box screenshots?

(And yes, I gave my fake screenshot the GUI from the original PC booter version.)

The dining hall of Dracula's castle in the published version of King's Quest 2. The walls of the room are light gray, and the dining table has a dark gray top and brown legs. Overhead is a candelabra with animated fire and smoke coming from the candles.A scan of a screenshot from the King's Quest 2 box, showing the dining hall in Dracula's castle. The walls of the room are green rather than gray, and the table in the center of the room has a brown top and dark gray legs, which were switched in the final game. The candelabra is unlit in this screenshot. Dracula appears in the image, walking to the right (east) behind the dining table.A fake screenshot of Dracula's dining room in King's Quest 2, mimicking the design seen on the box. The walls are green, the candelabra is unlit, and the dining table has a brown top and dark gray legs. Additionally, the parser window at the bottom of the screen has been raised up and slightly rearranged, and the white score bar at the top of the screen has been removed, to match the GUI as it appeared in the original PC booter release of the game.

Here's an updated version, since the crest of Daventry on the tapestries to the left also has different colors!

(The magic mirror also might have a palette issue, with light red pixels being drawn as yellow for some reason? I didn't reproduce that here though.)

An updated version of my facsimile screenshot of the King's Quest IV intro with a gray text box. This version has the crest of Daventry on the tapestries to the left of the throne room altered to match the colors seen in the scan above.

Had some fun recreating the unusual text box design seen in this screenshot of King's Quest IV on Amiga in the September 1991 issue of Aktueller Software Markt.

(Not included: the special Amiga window bar at the top of the screen.)

A magazine scan from the September 1991 issue of Aktueller Software Markt. It shows a screenshot from the intro of King's Quest IV on Amiga. In this version, the interior of the text boxes is a light gray, with a white rectangular inner border inside the regular black border. The text box shown here is also slightly lower on screen than it appears in the final game. Plus, there is an AmigaOS toolbar at the top of the screen, where the white score bar is in most Sierra SCI0 games. The toolbar says "Sierra" and has a couple of Workbench icons for adjusting the window on the right end.An attempt by me to recreate the style of the gray text boxes seen in the previous screenshot. I also lowered this particular text box slightly to match the placement seen in the scan. The special Amiga window bar at the top of the screen is not included.

Wonders - Travel to undiscovered

And this is my drawing based on Dark Ages (Ms Dos). It is lost a crystal of time. And brave traveler is going to bring it back. He need to go through forest of wonders. It is first obstacle. And there – to find a hatch of a Witch. To ask him – what place to go next. Witch will need to look at foggy ball.

A picture from Sierra's 1991 catalog.

I don't think I want to know any more about Graham being "King of Cassima", thank you very much. :P

A scan of part of a page from Sierra's 1991 catalog, showing painted art of King Graham and Cassima standing together from the ending of King's Quest V, with the potentially ambiguous caption "King Graham of Daventry and Cassima".

Hooray. Maybe one day I'll try one of these without using UHS. #kqiv #kingsquest #sierra
