Samsung ha implementado por defecto «Restricciones Máximas» en sus nuevos dispositivos Galaxy mediante su plataforma Knox, pero esta protección no se activa automáticamente para aquellos usuarios que actualizan desde modelos más antiguos. Más de mil millones de usuarios deben tomar una decisión activa sobre su configuración de seguridad para evitar vulnerabilidades críticas como la instalación de malware a través de la carga lateral de aplicaciones. Este enfoque híbrido, que contrasta con la postura más estricta de Google, deja la puerta abierta a riesgos significativos si el usuario no actúa (Fuente Zimperium).
La funcionalidad central en discusión es la opción de «Restricciones Máximas» dentro de la plataforma de seguridad Knox de Samsung. En los dispositivos Galaxy recién adquiridos (como el Galaxy S25 Ultra, mencionado en el artículo), esta configuración —que incluye el «Bloqueador Automático» (Auto Blocker)— se encuentra activa por defecto. Su función es crucial: impide la carga lateral de aplicaciones (sideloading) provenientes de fuentes no oficiales, inhabilita aplicaciones de administración de dispositivos, y previene la descarga automática de archivos adjuntos y enlaces maliciosos, cerrando así las principales brechas de seguridad.
El problema reside en que, cuando un usuario actualiza o migra desde un modelo Galaxy anterior, la configuración de seguridad previa —generalmente menos restrictiva— se mantiene intacta. La protección por defecto solo aplica para usuarios completamente nuevos. Esto significa que una estimación de mil millones de usuarios que han cambiado de teléfono recientemente podrían seguir expuestos a riesgos innecesarios.
El peligro de la carga lateral es tangible. Un informe de Zimperium reveló que más de 107.000 aplicaciones infectadas con malware han atacado a víctimas en 113 países aprovechando esta única vulnerabilidad de Android. Alarmantemente, más del 95% de estas muestras de malware eran desconocidas previamente, lo que subraya la invisibilidad del riesgo para los usuarios.
A diferencia de la postura de Google, que con Android 16 planea un bloqueo a nivel de sistema operativo para la instalación de apps de terceros, Samsung ha optado por un «enfoque híbrido» que mantiene la libertad de elección del usuario. Si bien esto es una ventaja en términos de libertad, es una desventaja crítica en términos de seguridad para los usuarios desinformados. Para garantizar la máxima protección, los usuarios que hayan realizado una actualización de dispositivo deben activar manualmente estas funciones. La ruta es sencilla: navegar a Ajustes > Seguridad y privacidad en su dispositivo Galaxy y habilitar la opción «Bloqueador Automático» (o las «Restricciones Máximas» específicas de Knox). Esta acción es esencial para defenderse de amenazas, incluyendo aquellas transmitidas a través de cable USB y las que intentan camuflarse en mensajes (cubiertas por Samsung Message Guard).
