Justo a tiempo para la cumbre COP29, en la que un grupo de autocomplacientes líderes mundiales se reunirán en Bakú, Azerbaiyán, para hacerse fotos, comer y, por supuesto, hablar de objetivos climáticos que no tienen intención de cumplir, subMedia, en colaboración con Peter Gelderloos, se complace en publicar la primera parte de una serie de tres: Es revolución o muerte.

La primera entrega de la serie analiza el impulso del capitalismo verde y cuestiona los supuestos de sentido común de sus defensores. Reforzadas por el apoyo inquebrantable y acrítico de las ONG, las empresas energéticas se presentan como innovadoras de vanguardia en tecnología de energía verde, al tiempo que cubren sus apuestas y mantienen carteras diversificadas, repletas de inversiones en combustibles fósiles.

Las dos próximas entregas tratarán sobre las luchas indígenas y anarquistas por la tierra y la autonomía, y sobre cómo las comunidades locales pueden organizarse para construir resiliencia ante el empeoramiento de la catástrofe climática.

Los efectos de un cambio climático galopante ya están aquí. Si algo han dejado bien claro los últimos 50 años de luz de gas, es que los políticos y empresarios que lideran la ofensiva a favor de la energía verde nunca darán prioridad a los intereses de la vida en la Tierra en su búsqueda de beneficios. ¿Qué vamos a hacer al respecto?

A Memorial for a Friend

Out of respect for my friend and their privacy, I will refer to him as GG. GG Allin being one of his favorite musicians.

So, I will share a story from 25ish years ago and some personal thoughts. My local music, "scene" has long since changed, somewhat died. My affiliated friends are everywhere and anywhere now, Mastodon is my only social media. Given several #Subgenius and #kolektiva members are/were active in various underground music scenes (punk, hardcore, ska, rockabilly, EDM, etc), as were both GG & I, it feels like this is the best I could do in his memory, for whatever reason, heh.

About 25ish years ago, GG, myself and several others were at a punk show and I believe one of the following were playing: The Casualties, The Unseen or The Exploited were headlining. If you are familiar with any of those bands, you may understand the confusion. Shit, I actually think I saw each of those three bands with him at least twice over the years, along with countless others. I feel confident enough it was The Casualties though, so that is who I am going with.

Well, GG was fucking obsessed with The Casualties, he knew the lyrics by heart and they had like 2 EPs out, maybe 2-3 albums (For the Punx, Underground Army & Stay Out of Order). Well, song number two hits, as does some punks fist and/or metal spike bracelet and out goes 75% of GG's front tooth in the pit, which he somehow recovers off the floor of this venue, basically an old warehouse in a semi abandoned factory building from the early 1900s.

There is absolutely nothing around this place, but GG manages to run at least 4-5 city blocks to buy Elmer's glue from "Bob" knows where, holds it in place for about 5 minutes and makes it back to the show while only missing about as many songs as city blocks ran, ha. This shit show, along with some over the counter denture cement, went on for months before GG finally got that shit fixed, given he was squatting at the time. Still not sure how it did not fall out again during their set.

I knew GG well. We saw a shit tons of bands together and I wish I could stop crying while typing this, but I just can't. We talked for hours and hours about The Clash, Black Flag, Talking Heads, The Damned, CBGBs, the 1960s counter culture movements, Bakunin, Trotsky, Lenin, Crass, Kropotkin, Marx, you name it, I could go on and on. GG was a fucking gem, a one of a kind person that even at his worse on drugs never stole a god damn thing from anyone and got himself clean with kratom for over a decade until his recent passing. He was the first person I ever met in the real world that was introduced on the early internet to GNU/Linux through the perspective of anarcho-communism. An he managed to get a hell of a job eventually in the film industry through it all.

He never changed or lost his ethics though, an whenever I saw him, he would always ask how I am doing in life, buy me a beer or go outside and smoke a joint with me. Whenever I was going through it, he would reach out to me.

I am going to miss the hell out of you GG, an I hope someone reading this understands what a treasure you were to me as a friend and to the world as a great, kind, intelligent person. Rest in Peace GG, you lived through alot of shit and I know it firsthand. I'll never forget you.

It looks like towards the end of 2024, kolektiva.social removed this section from their content guidelines on their "about" page. Up until that point, they considered it to be "chauvinistic and bigoted discourse" to draw an analogy between historic Germany Nazis and Israelis/Zionists. I'm glad they removed this, because that was a straight-up garbage take.

Mods wanted!!

Kolektiva.social has now been around for nearly five years. During that time, we have received lots of valuable feedback. It has and continues to help us better understand problems with our moderation, and what needs to change. A clear takeaway from the issues we've come up against is that we need more help with content moderation.

Over the past several months, It's become more evident than ever that our movements require autonomous social media networks. To be blunt, if we want Kolektiva (and the Fediverse more broadly) to continue to grow in the face of cyberlibertarian co-optation, we need more people to help out. Developing the Fediverse as an alternative, autonomous social network involves more than just using its free, open source, decentralized infrastructure as a simple substitute to surveillance capitalist platforms. It also takes shared responsibility and thoughtful, human centered moderation. As anarchists, we view content moderation through the lens of mutual aid: it is a form of collective care that enhances the quality of collective information flows and means of communication. Mutual aid is premised on working together to expand solidarity and build movements. It is about sharing time, attention, and responsibility. Stepping up to support with moderation means helping to maintain community standards, and to keep our space grounded in the values we share.

Corporate social media platforms do not operate on the principle of mutual aid. They operate on the basis of profit — mining their users for data, that they can process and sell to advertisers. Neither do the moderators of these social media platforms operate on the principle of mutual aid. They do these difficult and often brutal jobs because they are paid a wage out of the revenue brought in from advertisers. Kolektiva's moderation team consists of volunteers. If we want to do social media differently, it requires a shift in the service user/service provider mentality. It requires more people to step up, so that the burden of moderation is shared more equitably, and so that the moderation team is enriched by more perspectives.

If you join the Kolektiva moderation team, you’ll be part of a collective that spans several continents and brings different experiences and politics into conversation. Additionally, you'll build skills in navigating conflict and disagreement — skills that are valuable to our movements outside the Fediverse.

Of course, we know that not everyone can volunteer their time. We want to mention that there are plenty of ways to contribute: flag posts, report bugs and share direct feedback. We are grateful for everyone who has taken the time to do this and has discussed and engaged with us directly.

Since launching in 2020, Kolektiva has grown beyond what we ever expected. While our goal has never been to become massive, we value our place as a landing spot into the Fediverse for many — and a home base for some.

In addition to expanding our content moderation team, we have other plans in the works. These include starting a blog and developing educational materials to support people who want to create their own instances.

like how long would you suppose an anarchist, anti-colonial instance would get along with liberal instances? authoritarian left ones? "apolitical" instances?

not discounting that folks have negative interactions with specific accounts, etc.

Somos el Sindicato de Oficios Varios de Murcia de la CNT-AIT, y ya estamos en el Fediverso.

El actual SOV de Murcia de la CNT-AIT nace en Murcia el 21 de febrero de 2020, recogiendo el testigo de los innumerables esfuerzos y experiencias de lucha anarcosindicalista surgidas al calor de estas siglas desde principios del siglo XX hasta la actualidad.

Desde nuestro nacimiento tuvimos claro junto a quiénes queríamos luchar y dedicar nuestros esfuerzos. Por ello, a los cuatro meses de constituirnos, en el Pleno Regional del Levante celebrado en Elda el 7 de junio de 2020, nos adherimos a la Confederación Nacional del Trabajo adherida a la Asociación Internacional de Trabajadores (CNT-AIT).

Anhelamos la desaparición de cualquier forma de poder y jerarquía. Mientras tanto, abordamos las urgencias de las clases trabajadoras de hoy.

Nuestros principios más importantes son la horizontalidad, el apoyo mutuo, la acción directa y la solidaridad. Lo que somos no viene de cúpulas ni de líderes sindicales sino del esfuerzo y las decisiones colectivas y conscientes de las personas que conforman el sindicato. Por eso mismo nuestra forma básica de organización y de toma de decisiones es la asamblea.

Por otro lado, nuestra actividad sindical rechaza la participación en comités de empresa y aboga por la creación de secciones sindicales, organizaciones exclusivas de trabajadores en una empresa. Renegamos también de las subvenciones estatales que pretenden imponernos la hoja de ruta de los gobiernos, así como de la liberalización de nuestra militancia. No cobramos ni gozamos de beneficio alguno por ayudarnos mutuamente, no queremos ser sindicalistas a sueldo. Nuestra herramienta más valiosa es la solidaridad.

Por todo esto y mucho más, te animamos a que te acerques a conocernos y a participar activamente en la lucha por la emancipación de las clases trabajadoras, de las desposeídas y las desheredadas.
