Research from the homelessness charity Crisis and the campaign group Health Equals found fewer than three in every 100 private rental properties listed in England were affordable for people on housing benefit between April and October 2024.

The Labour freeze on housing benefit will push many more thousands into homelessness and arrears.

Labour won a massive majority. They had a choice: tax the rich and invest in people or slash welfare and call it ‘fiscal discipline.’ Guess which one they picked? Spoiler: It wasn’t taxing billionaires. #StarmerBetrayal #LabourAusterity

💚 As the Spring Statement approaches, let’s be clear: we need policies that protect people, not punish them.

6️⃣ Fair societies invest in people, not punish them. A strong welfare system strengthens communities, boosts the economy, and creates a fairer future for all.

5️⃣ Austerity doesn’t fix deficits – it worsens them. When people struggle to afford basics, economic activity slows, tax revenues drop, and public finances suffer. Austerity is a failed experiment.

#SpringStatement #LabourAusterity

Green Party political poster from Northern Ireland discussing economic impact. Large white text reads 'Welfare cuts don't boost the economy - they harm it' on a teal green background. A red banner at the top reads 'LABOUR'S SPRING STATEMENT 2025'. Smaller text below the main headline states 'Slashing benefits means less spending power, which weakens economic growth'. Green Party logo is at the top left, with a membership join link at the bottom of the image.

4️⃣ Welfare cuts don’t boost the economy – they harm it. Less money in people’s pockets means less spending, weaker businesses, and slower growth. Supporting people supports the economy.

A red banner at the top reads 'LABOUR'S SPRING STATEMENT 2025'. Smaller text below the main headline explains 'Welfare cuts suppress economic activity, reducing tax revenues and harming public finances'. Green Party logo is at the top left, with a membership join link at the bottom of the image.

3️⃣ Cutting welfare shifts the burden elsewhere. Less support means more pressure on the NHS, housing, and social services. The costs don’t disappear—they just hit the most vulnerable harder.

2️⃣ Poverty isn’t a policy success – it’s a political choice. Welfare cuts don’t ‘incentivise work’—they push people further into hardship. We need a system that lifts people up, not holds them down.

Green Party logo is at the top left, with a membership join link at the bottom of the image.

1️⃣ Welfare is not a luxury – it’s a lifeline. Cutting support leaves millions struggling and weakens our society. A fair system protects its most vulnerable.

"Through my work with Trussell, I know the reality of these cuts will be parents in disabled families having to skip meals so that they can feed their children. Things don’t have to be this way. We must shout as loud as we can to let the UK government know this plan is wrong.”
Stanley Tucci

Time once again to post Richard Murphy's 'Taxing Wealth Report" in the light of more rumoured cuts from Rachel 'Austerity' Reeves.

"The Taxing Wealth Report shows that by making up to thirty relatively simple changes to existing UK taxes, up to £90 billion of new tax revenue could be raised a year, entirely from those who are well off or who are straightforwardly wealthy. Only those in the top 10% of income earners should be affected"

Work & pensions secretary Liz Kendall plans to keep £1.3bn in cuts to UK sickness benefits announced by the previous Tory government. This will affect half a million of the most vulnerable people.
She also plans to keep the draconian Tory changes to work capability assessments, in order to 'encourage' disabled people into work.

Kendall was the only Labour leadership candidate in 2015 to fully back Tory welfare cuts.

Most (58%) people facing hunger and hardship were in a household where at least one person is working. Almost four in 10 people in households claiming universal credit were in hunger and hardship.

A new study from Trussell shows more than 9 million Britons are now vulnerable to reliance on food banks.
