This red-tailed hawk (I think) refused to do anything photogenic. He was surveying the #LaJolla Country Club fairway for prey.

First time snorkeling in California, went looking for leopard sharks this day but never saw any. Figured it out the next year. Took this with my old GoPro, think I edited on my phone long ago.

I need to go back and dive here!

Sea Lion Catching a Wave in La Jolla, California. I love the story of their habitat. This section of ocean shore had a seawall built in 1931 to create a calm beach in which children could swim and play more safely. Seals and sea lions decided it was perfect for their own kids, and laid claim to it. The humans, who could have waged war against wildlife, surrendered to it instead. Winter brings "king tides" to Southern California, with exceptionally low (negative) tides that allow access to a few areas along the coast that are otherwise only accessible from the ocean. One still has to pay attention to the tides though!

This is one of the narrow sea caves south of La Jolla shores and yes, the colors really are quite strange... :)
