Beneath an evening sky of deepening blue, we are walking a footpath along the shore of a pond. A stately forest of mature pines, hemlocks and hardwoods encircles the pond. The sun, low in the sky offscreen right, is shining a golden-tinged light on the forest as shadows lengthen beneath the trees. The path follows the shore very closely, in spots short wooden footbridges span tricky stretches. The placid pond surface mirrors the scene but somewhat darker, in spots the water looks almost black. A cluster of deep green lily pads floats just offshore.
