A November sunset at one of the best-known landmarks where I live in NE England.
This is the Earl of Durham's Monument, which dominates Penshaw Hill in Sunderland, although it's usually just referred to as 'Penshaw Monument'.
It was completed in 1845 (funded by public subscription) to commemorate John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham (1792–1840), Governor-General of British North America and author of the Durham Report on the future governance of the American territories.
It's something of a fondly admired iconic feature and can be viewed from miles around.
Inspired by the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens and the care of the National Trust since 1939, it is a Grade I listed structure.

Der markante Torre del Sperpe bei Otranto ragt stolz an der Küste empor. Ein Monument vergangener Zeiten, das Wind und Wetter getrotzt hat und heute als stiller Wächter die Landschaft prägt. Auffällig ist, dass der Turm nur halb-rund ist. Dies ist wohl kein Verfall, sondern seine ursprüngliche Bauform: halbrunde Körper sind typisch für diese Art von Küstenwachtürmen und diente der besseren Verteidigung und Beobachtung.

Apsara lady playing pin

The Pin is an arched harp, first found in engravings in Sambor Prey Kouk, the capital of the Chenla kingdom - the last Khmer kingdom before the Khmer Angkor Empire of 802 CE.

The Pin fell into disuse with the empire in the 1500s. But now restored as a significant part of the musical cultural heritage of Cambodia.

The instrument itself was lost for hundreds of years. But the word for Khmer classical music survived as “pinpeat”.

Another from Avenue of the Giants. The Founders' Tree is currently listed as the fifth tallest tree in the world, but up until 1957 was the tallest known. It is named for the founders of the Save the Redwoods League.

Taken with a 16mm lens and corrected a bit in post for perspective. I like the convergence, though.
